Let me say this. No one on that list definitively beats Calzaghe, in my opinion. Here's the point. You're responsible for your career. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices to make the big fights (Leave your country, WD). The fact remains, more often than not, Calzaghe didn't make those sacrifices.

He avoided plenty of fights. There were plenty of big names at light-heavy but he chose to stick it out at 168 with the WBO belt racking up meaningless title defenses so he could have claim to have broken the title defense record.

The difference between Hopkins and Calzaghe is, Hopkins had no choice but to stay at 160 and defend his IBF title for years. He had no big fan base or following and nobody wanted any of him. His IBF title was his only negotiating tool to get fights.

Calzghe on the other hand had a very big fanbase and could have used it to come to America like Ricky Hatton did. He didn't need to cling on to his belt for so long. Only this year did he finally do it to fight a broken down 43 year old who has been largly inactive the last few years.

I give Calzaghe just a lil more credit then current WBO light-heavy champ Zolte Erdei who himself has 10 title defenses now.

That is completely untrue. Calzaghe did not have a large fanbase until he beat Jeff Lacy.

You can do that to every fighter.

Floyd ducked Cotto, Williams, Margarito, Cintron, Quintana, Morales, Barrera.

Does that make Floyd any less of what he is now?! Maybe but that shouldn't diminish his legacy and Floyd NEVER stepped outside of his crib.

There's a huge double standard that most of you yanks choose to ignore.

The lack of big american names on his resume is down to them, not him.
              WTF? Americans cause his injuries?

Why are you referring to people from New England?

Calzaghe was actually quite disliked in Britain for a while

He was scheduled to fight Johnson, and got injured.

After that, Johnson wanted nothing to do with him.

A fight can always be rescheduled, but only if both parties agree.
