I do not dislike him but I think his 'haters' do because of his arrogance at times, and some of his fans who overhype him in some discussions. I honestly don't think it's because of the way he punches these days. I mean, if you watch a Calzaghe fight surely it's something that you'll barely notice.

Do you really think Calzaghe comes across as arrogant? I mean compared to most boxers he seems the model of restraint to me, apart from that he always says he will win, as all boxers do. Obviously the Hopkins butt****ing incident was quite over the top, but to be fair, considering some of Hopkins's comments, pretty funny.

I agree with you on the slapping, I mean it really isn't that bad or noticeable in the vast majority of his fights. It did look a bit dodgy against Hopkins though, because he kept having to pull his punches up short to hit the clinching Hopkins, so maybe thats why everyone thinks its so bad. All in all though I think hating him for slaps is just an excuse.

To be fair I think it is pretty much impossible to look good against B-Hop, regardless of age. Hell, even Roy didn't look outstanding against the man.

Whats all ths **** on Hopkins, Hopkins needs more credit, he would make any LHW look ****, he made the superman version of Roy Jones look **** in 1994. (Jones landed nothing more meaningful than jabs) Compared to how Roy schooled Toney half a year later.

              Two reasons:

              1) Some of his fans. People go too far and proclaim Calzaghe to be something even he wouldn't claim to be. He isn't the 'GOAT' or even close, but some fans seem to believe it.

              2) His apparantly poor resume. Ignorant, ill-researched bull**** with a whiff of xenophobia of course, but some people (predominantly American posters it must be said) see boxing in only black and white terms*. They see that Calzaghe was a champion around the time Hopkins and Jones Jr were in their respective primes and presume it was possible to make each fight. In addition they expect Calzaghe to be an almost entirely unique commodity in chasing both fighters; a champion who will jump through ranking hoops for much smaller paydays than he was getting before.

I don't actually mind people disliking Calzaghe for his 'slap' punches or because they thought Hopkins beat him. There are reasonable arguments for either. The above two reasons though, are the worst reasons for disliking him as well as being the most frequent.

*First idiot to misread this point as a racial one gets a virtual lollypop and a condescending response.

Also a unique commodity in that to fight them both he would have had to move both down to MW and up to LHW. Nice work if you can get it.

Its easy to say that his haters, usually Americans are biased because of nationality, but that doesn't explain much really. Even if you are a little nationalistic you still must have an opinion as to why Calzaghe does not deserve your respect.

My theory is you all actually just don't think he's a very good boxer, so if I'm right, could some of you please enlighten me as to why you feel this way? If not, then please share you hate and enlighten me anyway.

                    Thanks
Calzaghe got my respect for beating Kessler, but then he barely beat an over the hill HOpkins and now is fighting the faded shell of RJJ.
