No he wasn't. Mayweather wasn't fighting on the inside until the tenth round when Hatton had already hit the canvas. Mayweather was throwing a punch, holding on and waiting for Cortez to separate them and then warn Hatton.

Hatton attempted to hit Mayeather in the back of the head while Floyd tried no such thing.
That's bull****, Floyd hit Hatton on the back of the head in almost identical circumstances to the incident that cost Hatton a point earlier in the fight.

The ref didn't knock Hatton out.
The ref helped keep the fight out of Hatton's range and Hatton was softened up as a result.

Floyd smothered Hatton and didn't allow him to throw. The only thing the ref could of done is separate them as neither of them could throw any punches.
Floyd was throwing one punch and then holding onto Hatton. Cortez was then breaking them up and warning Hatton. This was repeated over and over. If Cortez allowed them to punch out Hatton would have had a better chance to make an impact.

It's amazing to read sometimes. "Oh Hatton is a mini ruiz he just hugs the whole time lol!"
"Er... Floyd was the one doing the holding in that fight..."
"No, Floyd wasn't holding, he was SMOTHERING!"

Anyway this isn't about Hatton versus Floyd, but it is another nail in the coffin of Cortez' credibility. He is responsible for a litany of howlers, is anybody honestly suggesting that Cortez was in any way fair and impartial in the Mayweather-Hatton fight and the Calzaghe-Hopkins fight but then made a teensy weensy mistake in this one?

I'm serious, this is FBI ****.

I don't remember Hatton being erroneously disqualified. I thought he got KOd?

Man some of Ricky's fans are delusional. He got totally outclassed in that fight, it was a total clinic.

What you seem to not understand is Hatton is not on Mayweathers level and the ref was not the main factor in the fight.Mayweathers skills were the determining factor. He timed Hatton several times for that check left hook and missed him a couple times. If you noticed he led Hatton to that same spot multiple times and eventually landed the hook.Hatton has benifited from hometown refs his whole career and now he doesn't get it his way this one time and his fans are in an outrage. It is hypocricy to complain about Cortez when Hatton can do whatever he wants in his own backyard.Hatton couldn't beat Mayweather with his father as the referee. The gulf in class was enormous!
