Tito owned a belt and looked awesome his previous fight at middleweight. I never liked this excuse from the anti-hopkins crowd because it completely over looks the fact that hopkins was the better fighter, period. If it was simply a matter of hopkins out muscling trinidad or being too physical, then it would be an acceptable excuse, but that's not what happened. Hopkins was superb that night and would have beat anyone imo.
The reason Hopkins looked so good was because he was too big and powerful for Trinidad. Trinidad could not get near him because his punches were too stiff and powerful and so Hopkins was able to boss the fight. Its easy to box well when you have massive advantages over your opponent.

Alos, I am not 'anti-Hopkins' he is a tremendous boxer, but it is my opinion that in that particular fight he won mostly because of his size. Once again, this is not a radical opinion, it is one that is widely shared, but you talk as though it is some sort of ludicrous heresy.

Oh...so now Hopkins was more powerful than Tito...lol. That's why he went twelve with an older, more faded version of Joppy and Tito destroyed him in five.

      Carry on...

Triangle theory...styles make fights....how many cliches would you like me to trot out.

Hopkins was too big and too powerful for Trinidad, hence the TKO.

Again, did you watch the fight?

Hopkins out-boxed tito. Tito was constantly coming forward and hopkins never allowed him to get into a grove, he did this with defense, footwork and perfectly timed counter shots, he didn't do this out of power and size, hopkins has never been a tremendous power puncher.

It is widely shared on THIS SITE, but was not widely shared at the time, which is why Tito was a 6 to 1 favorite to win the fight and when you watch the fight, you'll never once hear any of the three announcers mention anything about a size differential, in fact all they kept talking about was Tito's power and how hopkins needs to be "carefull" and "watch out." Only at the end of the fight did they start praising bhop for his masterful performance (i.e the way he completely out-boxed tito).

Tito father shouldn’t have stopped the fight. There was only a few seconds remaining it shouldn’t been a TKO. Tito was already after that punch.

First of all, Hopkins is not more powerful than Tito. That's shown by their records - Tito was, shot for shot, a harder puncher.

Secondly, hence the TKO? It happened in the last round, genius - after a LONG beating. You act like it was Jones-Griffin II.

Finally, you're wrong anyway. Hopkins won by outboxing Tito who - although he was FARRR weaker according to you - was the aggressor all night as he tried to make it a FIGHT. Go watch the fight...for the first time.

I might very well ask you the same question - have you seen the fight? - I find it very hard to believe that if you have you can say anything other than Hopkins size was a major factor, it is absolutely plain for all to see.

Hopkins was able to box so well because his size advantage meant that Trinidad was in his pocket for virtually the entire fight. When you have control of your opponent it is easier to box in an impressive fashion. That doesn't mean that Hopkins' boxing skills were not good, they were, but it was his size that enabled him to put them into practice. I don't even think this is a contoversial opinion.
