I live in philadelphia and where bernard hopkins was from which was germantown it wasnt really that bad of a place. I mean you wouldnt wanna walk through it at night but there were much worse places.

I know he had a messed up childhood and he was in and out of jail but everytime he talks about it he acts like he grew up in the baddest town. I still respect him though.

Oh you mean this one, where he puts his head down?

Yeah, he uses this all the time. It's actually a great tactic, as manny steward explains he does it so his opponent have almost no target to hit. In other words, he throws a power shot but leaves no room for himself to be countered. he's knocked a lot of people down/out with this shot.

But you feel how you feel, and I can agree to disagree. I didn't really wanna revisit this, neither. I know it sucks to have a fighter you like get criticized, man.
Like I said, I don't care if people criticize b-hop. I just don't like when people downplay his achievements or twist the facts.

Against Glen Johnson when hopkins was 32:

Watch this and compare that to how he looks against Winky and Calzaghe. Completely different fighter.

And yes, even here against Trinidad (this is the final KO):

People try to discredit hopkins for beating Trinidad (even though Trinidad WAS a title holder at middleweight) but the fact of the matter is hopkins put on when of the great performances and Trinidad was completely outboxed by the better man. This wasn't a case of the "bigger man" muscling his way to victory, hopkins performed beautifully- his defense, footwork, handspeed, tectnique, everything was suburb that night and that shouldn't be taken away from bhop.

And this video goes back a bit further then the above, which really shows how well hopkins performed. Especially about 2:00 into the video when bhop is against the ropes:
