Who else is inspired by Bernard Hopkins' story?

Watching Bernard Hopkins: Behind The Glory made me realise just how inspirational Hopkins could be perceived to be. Where he went from no where, and still helping out the guys in the position he was in.

    Anyone else?

I just dont like how he kept referencing his backround leading up to his fight with Calzaghe.

I think he does reference it a litle bit too much. But, you have to admitt what he did coming from where he did is pretty incredible.

Well, to me it is anyway..

          yeah I agree.

he gets a lot of **** on this site unfortunately because people focus on his trash talking, but the truth is he's accomplishment more then 99.99% of fighters inside AND outside of the ring.

In addition he's not your typical rich athlete that is all flashy and whatnot, he gives a lot back to the community and does a lot of charity work.

It's definitely a great story. He had to go through a lot, and obviously he did very well for himself.

Yeah. A lot of people talk about how guys like Klitschko help out guys less fortunate than them. Hopkisn did as well, dunno if he still does, but he used to help guys out in the position he used to be in.

Roy Jones going from brown to nutmeg inspired me.

yep, he does. And people critisize him for not getting any "big" fights until he was in his 30's but don't understand that there was a reason he had such a tough time - he fought against a lot of the people on top and risked a lot to fight for boxers rights, etc. He's one of the few active fighters that really took the time to actually do something about the sport.
Becoming an outspoken advocate for fighters' rights, Hopkins took every opportunity to try to right the wrongs committed against boxers, or at least make people aware of them. He even testified before Congress in support of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act, making many enemies within the boxing industry. But as long as Hopkins kept winning, no one could stop him from achieving his goals or speaking his mind on a world stage.

                    another
A tireless advocate for boxers’ rights, Hopkins, who has always acted as his own manager, has used every opportunity - including speaking before Congress - to ensure fair treatment for his fellow pugilists. A man of the people, Hopkins’ popularity among fight fans has ensured record success for his participation in two of the sport’s biggest events in recent years – his matches against Oscar De La Hoya and Felix Trinidad.
