Isn't that the only reason this fight hasn't already happened?

Hate on Joe all you want, but this fight would have come and gone already if Roy hadn't refused.
no dude, i read the interview where joe talked about roy in the 90's saying he was the only fighter he really didnt want to fight, he said jones confidence was so high when hes in the ring, joe didnt think he was beatable... im not makin this up either... roy didnt DUCK joe calzaghe

        everyone brace themselves for this....

in my honest non biased opinion...

        Joe Calzaghe ducked Pavlik...

Although I think Roy will cause problems for Joe...

I think at this stage Roy is a much more beatable fighter than Pavlik...

Roy is 39, and hes well past it... although youll find me on here debating how I think Roy can beat Joe... and he CAN.... I think pavlik is probably a much more dangerous fighter... I definitely wouldnt feel good if Roy signed up to fight Pavlik, or Kessler for that matter... I feel much better with Roy fighting Joe, than I do Kessler or Pavlik...
        V.good post.

And I agree with it all.

I remember the exact quote, from the mouth of Roy himself. Something along the lines of:

"Why fight a dangerous fighter who I could lose to for $5 million, when I can have a cake walk for $4 million?"

It's an actual quote from him and has to be sourced somewhere, will post it up as soon as I find it.

"When I was the best boxer pound-for-pound in the world [intermittently between 1994 and 2003] it wouldn't have been smart for me to go and fight Joe," Jones said. "You don't go to somebody else when you're the best, they must come to you, so I wouldn't take the risk [at that time]. And why would I? Why would I meet that challenge when I'm already the best? Why would I go to your country and give you a chance to allow the powers-that-be to take a close decision and give it to you?"

A prime Roy would Hammer all three of them to pieces. He was that special.
