I hope for Calzaghe's sake that Jones will have an amazing performance showing many glimpses of his former self. That way Jones will be happy enough to bow out regardless of the outcome, and Calzaghe can say he has beaten a legend that still had enough left in him to add that much more significance to his record.

this fight wont make joe look good EITHER way... if roy does good, itll make joe look terrible being roys current state, if roy beats him then LMAO... if joe beats roy convincingly, then roy never had it and is well past it...

ahahahahaha such a bad decision for joe its just ridiculous, if he loses all his career will seem ******, if he wins nothing really changes, and then retiring after such a meaningless fight, its just ridiculous, pavlik would have been such a different story.
Still i really wanna watch this. And although i do not hate on calzaghe i will be rooting for roy, i would be more than happy to see him win this fight.
To the ppl saying that prime jones ducked joe hahaha cmon use your brain guys cmon, the fight just didnt happen, jones wouldnt duck anyone, by that logic any champ has ducked many many fighters, calzaghe would have been another meaningless fighter in front of prime jones.Comment

You may be right but a lot of that would have to do with the ignorance of people. I for one would not look down on Calzaghe if Roy gives him trouble by fighting a great fight. After all, we all know how good Roy used to be.
However, as I said I HOPE this will be the case, but at this stage I think the criticsm will probably be justified. I can't see Roy winning this fight. Lost his great footspeed which was crucial for his style, although his defence has become better. He'll do good on the outside. It sounds as though Calzaghe respects Jones so he might not be as aggressive, but if he forces him on the ropes all night it won't be easy for Roy.Comment

It's interesting...I agree but disagree.
Everyone thinks (for some reason) that in order for Jones to win, he'll have to keep the fight in the center of the ring. I believe the opposite holds true. Jones cannot win in the center of the ring because his legs are gone.
Why do you think Jones wants Calzaghe so bad right now? Why???
Because Calzaghe's strengths play right into HIS strengths.
Jones is still fast, still powerful, still intelligent. He has spent the last three years honing his in-fighting/back against the ropes skills.
Why? Because he knows his legs are shot. And he knows that in order to beat Calzaghe, he'll have to counter him and work the body off the ropes.
This fight will resemble Jirov-Toney. The question is, who will inflict more damage this time around?Comment

the only advanatge joe has over roy IMO is his legs are fresher.... put roy on the ropes, and you just leveled the playing field..

I don't buy it.
But you have to take a look from Jones point of view. He was P4P the #1 fighter in the sport. A well known fighter & multi-division champ & the challenger who's virtually an unknown wants you to come to his backyard overseas & fight him. Of course any boxer would want to be compensated for doing that. Cal was the fighter that needed to establish himself so he should have made more of an effort to fight Jones but he was content to defend his WBO belt at home."We tried to make this fight many years ago but the stumbling block was always what Roy wanted to be paid,"
Where's the ducking? Joe wasn't mentioning Roy much when Roy was in his prime?
Plus i found this in a thread i made back in the day claiming Joe had said this, am trying to get a link for it now.
