That doesn't take away from it being a bad comparison as many people have pointed out. This wasn't clearing up the confusion -- this was giving Paul Williams a second chance. He didn't clear up anything except show that he can hit hard enough to put Quintana down and he caught him.

Can he catch him again? Can he outbox him? I think a rubber match is actually very important to these two fighters.

Williams has decent power, he's not really a big puncher....It was just a case of Williams catching Quintana with a perfect shot and Quintana never recovered...Quintana took Williams' punches well in the first fight

The 1st fight: Quintana clearly, and with a fair amount of ease outboxes Williams to take a good, clear UD.

The 2nd fight: Williams catches Quintana and Carlos never recovers. Williams wins by KO1.

Quintana was not dominated in the 2nd fight, just got caught and never recovered. I thought it was an either way fight, and didn't really have a pick, but the outcome suprised me. Quintana has the skill to keep it close, and beat, or lose closely to Williams if he doesn't get caught/keeps his hands up. Who wins the 3rd fight?
no, i dont. i want to see mosley/pw. it is time for pw to put up or shut up.

If Williams can't get a fight with Cotto or anohter top name than yes. But he has his belt back and he may just move on. Quintana fought a great fight in the first one. But Williams came out in the second bout and blew Carlos out of the waters. After the first two exchanges where he had success he got over confident and got blasted for it.

So would you say Roy was never dominated in the 2nd tarver fight?

Especially because he won the 1st round and was winning the 2nd...

Cuz what your saying would pretty much mean you would believe that also...

I wouldn't say Roy was dominated in the 2nd Tarver fight, no. Roy probably won the first round, though it was exetremly uneventful, and the second was going fine, with nothing of note happening. But then he got caught, and didn't recover and got cleanly knocked out. The same thing happened with Quintana in the second fight, he got caught and dazed and knocked out. Nothing that happened before either knockout indicated dominance, but I suppose its fair to say Quintana was domianted because nothing else aside from getting knocked out happened.

Does Quintana deserve a rematch? Yes, of course he does. We're talking about a man that, over the majority of thirteen rounds, beat a young welterweight champion. Out of those thirteen rounds it was only the first round of their rematch in which he was clearly demolished; and that was a KO. So, as far as entitlement goes...Quintana deserves a second chance as much as Williams did, right?

Do I want to see a rematch? While I find the idea intriguing- settle the question over who is truly better (if there is any) I'd rather see Paul move on. I mean, if you really want to stop a rubber match from being necessary a first round blow out is the easiest way. Lewis-Rahman II is brought to mind. Lennox had better things to do that fight someone who he had just knocked clean out - even if that man had knocked him out a few months prior.

Who would I pick to win? If Carlos was caught like that in the second fight, it can happen again - but the majority of rounds they have battled go to Quintana, so Williams has to prove that, without catching him, he can win a third fight, right? Well, I think Paul will come into a 3rd fight brimming with confidence...while Quintana will be timid. Too timid. The first few rounds he'll allow Williams to take, dish out damage, and he'll either get stopped in the mid rounds or drop a decision.

                    Good post.

About Quintana being a bit too timid, while its possible, we'd have to wait and see. Williams looked so dejected after the first fight, and so discouraged that it at times was hard for me imagining him getting anything but stopped late, but he came in ****ing hungry! Its possible that Carlos comes too gun-shy, its also possible that he comes to kill.

Not right now, there are too many other good fights at Welter, he don't deserve it, the way he got clobbered last night. He needs to take a couple fights to build back his confidence and marketability.
