Lets Be Honest He Never Fought The Good Champs To Not Lose To Them, A Real Champ Goes In There And Gives It His Best. A Perfect Example Is Quintana Who Got Pumeled And Still Wants To Go Out And Fight Another Fight With Williams Even Though Its Useless But It Shows You How A Real Welterweight Thinks And Acts. My Personal Opinion Is That He Was Never A Real Welterweight Champ, He Was A Paper Ww Champ That Was Looking To Make Himself Seem The Best And He Was Really In All These Other Guys Shadow. He Never Wanted To Fight Margarito, Cotto, Mosley And All These Other Guys. He Was A Good Lightweight Camp But Not A Ww Champ. So All He Did Was Do Us A Favor And Retire So Those Real Champ Can Come Out!! Thank You Mayweather No More Mediocre Champs!!

i personally think floyd is doin a leonard. i honestly hope that this decision to retire is a gameplan and not serious. floyd vs cotto is da 1 and only fight floyd HAS to fight before he retires. i still think we will see it

not quite man. floyd was already out of his prime. if watch the hatton fight closely only the superior timing of floyd solved that fight. floyd of 2005 would have thrown allot more punches. if he comes back it wouldn't surprise me but he won't be the same fighter, he has had 2 major injuries (back and right hand) and many small ones. he began feeling them limiting his training and before he could turn old overnight he quited. well, what can you say..

your right this not the best time for prettyboy to fight cotto because he does not see the big money remember money, money, money, thats all its about with him.Plus if he would have fought dela hoya again there would no longer be a zero in the lost column then the fight with cotto would be lost . this guy is not, not, not, retired its just bull**** he knows that to go out the best ever in the back of his skull he must beat the 3 best out there so relax he'll be back,as long there is a big big pay day fight he will stick his nose in it.

The sport will miss Floyd Mayweather. I know I will. Every sport needs a controversial figure. Floyd knew his role. He played the bad guy for your entertainment and made lots of money doing so because many of you paid to see him get beat and as long as he fought you would continue to pay hoping that he would get beat. He is an excellent technician and the most accurate punching fighter by far. I would have loved to see him fight Cotto. If he decides to comeback for one more fight, that should be it.
I don't disagree with you. The moment I read his retirement speech "Boxing now moves on" was my initial reaction, and obviously still the way I feel.

If Floyd no longer has the desire to fight, then God bless him and I wish him well. Beyond that, onto the top champions and contenders willing to face one another. Yes Floyd knew his role, but as critical as he was of other fighter ("straight up and down"), he was pretty damn limited even in playing the villain.

We both agree, though - the only fight that matters in his career is a cotto showdown. Hopefully Miguel and Top Rank can put something behind their words - they demanded a Floyd fight and claim their fighter to be the best. Floyd's now (indirectly) giving him the opportunity to become the man, so the onus is now on him, and not to make his name off of Floyd (an expirement to which they tried and miserably failed with Margarito).

I agree with Mr. Party. Why hang around a sport where it seems that most observers' sole motivation is to see you lose even though you've done nothing but win? Earlier in his career Floyd fought all the top names in his divisions and didn't receive superstar status-which was his beef with Bob Arum, initially.
He did what was asked of him and still didn't get the billboards. So he switched up the plans and took fights that would put him on the biggest stage. He made himself a star and then came the detractors-"he didn't fight him or me or my cousin! waah, waah" He paid his dues, made his money and scorns those who don't like the fact that he did it--sure he could be more humble but it's still pretty close to the perfect plan in my eyes. As far as the Cotto fans who have so much to say- where were you when Floyd asked for the Cotto fight. Probably somewhere in the background next to me, saying "Damn, it would be a good scrap but Cotto's not ready." Cotto & his team (Floyd's now-enemy, Arum) knew this so they deflected the offer with, "maybe in 12-18 months." Well guess what? You don't tell the man to beat to wait a year and a half to fight your up-and-coming ass!!! and so the Cotto issue is dead and Floyd and his bad hands can ride off into the sunset knowing that he did what he came to do and went out perfect and on top.

                    Hmmm....

It was great watching him put on boxing clinics for the younger generation.

Not to mention being part of the highest grossing boxing event ever.

I feel his love for preparation/training has diminished, among other reasons, and not his love for boxing. After all, boxing is and will continue to be in his blood for life.

It's common to see a fighter retire for a short while, then return for "one more shot at the title."

So, I also wouldn't be surprised if he laced on the gloves once more at some point in the future for a mega payday. Hopefully, with all of his faculties intact.

I would've eagerly awaited a major bout with Cotto if it were to happen.

But even if he doesn't ever return to the ring as a fighter, at least his fans might enjoy seeing him ringside doing boxing commentary and grilling some of the best fighters of the future.

                    In any event...

                    ...Thanks for the memories Floyd.
