that's good to hear. maybe the ufc was able to hold back a little because pride folded and less comp? they paid $70 million for name rights to pride and they stop pride from competing salary wise?Tough to say how many have PPV bonuses set in their contract. Could range anywhere from 10-20 guys I'd say.
Those numbers are terribly low, but they are from 2005. A LOT has changed since then. The pay scale is still unbalanced in favour of Zuffa and the UFC, but when the sport was just starting to garner mainstream attention things were worse. Boxing, NFL, NHL, MLB, etc. have had decades to set a fair and balanced pay structure, the UFC and MMA in general have literally had about 5 years to bridge the gap between increased revenue and fighter pay. The UFC is really the only MMA organization that has been able to garner large amounts of revenue. Most other organizations are either bleeding money from giving out contracts they can't afford to pay or making small profits, but not being able to compete with the UFC juggernaut. But, in order to become a legitimate contender with the UFC at least in North America and the UK these organizations have to grow steadily and have a smart business plan.
Taking a look at the figures released to the public for UFC 84 on May 24th the figures have made fairly significant jumps...

But, as the article you posted showed, the guys who signed deals as a result of appearing on the reality show suffered the most. But, a lot of the guys from the first couple seasons have finally been able to negotiate new contracts which are more in line with their talent and value.
i'm not asking these guys to get millions. what do i care if they're rich? they're not floyd jr. they won't share their money to their nuthuggers like floyd did but could be nice to see someone who risks getting hurt real bad to at least be able to make a living out fighting. 10 K a piece means ou have to fight 5-6 times just to make an ok living is tough.Comment

then shaw is ******ed because since kimbos game is the stand up game, why does he have him in mma where wrestlers and bjj guys can take him down and easily beat him. thompson would've gotten the win in their fight had that fighth been in any other orginization, ufc, pride or whatever, but since it was elite exc which is shaw and showtime, who is promoting kimbo, they let it go on, because kimbo in the second round was dead in the water, pinned down, getting beaten up for over a minute and a half without any intelligent defense, which is grounds for a stoppage in any of the mma fights.
the reason why shaw doesn't have slice in boxing is because he knows that he is far from refined as a boxer and would get owned by anyone in the top 20 in heavyweight boxing. shaw is a joke, a crook, and a fat sack of ****, thats is his new name, Gary "fat sack of ****" Shaw, i wouldn't piss on his gums if they were on fire to put it out.
but if kimbo is such the guy, such the fighter, such the great boxer, then why have him in fighting against guys who have less experience in stand up fighting? why have him fighting with those little gloves? why have him fight guys that can takw him out of his comfort zone and fight him on the ground? because shaw knows that his guy is limited and he's going to milk that guy for as much as he can, having slice in mma is the only way to give him any legitimacy. just like he does with all his cash cows, kimbo being the biggest, next we're going to see kimbo shirts in mervyns and departments stores around the coumtry, they're hyping this guy so much.
shaw knows that he better get what he can out of this guy because he knows its a matter of time before all this goes away and slice gets handled inside the ring.Last edited by deuce_drop; 06-08-2008, 07:43 PM.Comment
