The salary figures which are publicly released by the UFC are not entirely accurate.how the hell does he make 300K a fight?
that's gotta be wrong. i looked up some articles on how much the ufc pays and it's pathetic. i read on there that randy made around 200k a fight and less than that if he losses. i don't know how much elite xc fights but if they pay that much no wonder a lot of ufc guys wanna leave. dana white sticks them LOOOOOONG term contracts that's why.
i saw an article where the whole ufc card (all the fighters that night) got paid $300-400K altogether. small time card you say? the ufc made around $3 million or so just from the gate. i know we make fun of those guys and you might think what they do is crap but you have to feel bad for these guys making $10K for a fight that they could get seriously hurt in , while the company makes millions!
The top guys have PPV bonuses which can add hundreds of thousands of dollars to the salary figure. Sponsorship money can often times dwarf actual fight pay.
Fight of the Night, Submission of the Night and KO of the Night are currently at 75K an event (50K for yesterdays card though).
Also, additional backstage bonuses are given out by UFC management to many fighters. Whether it just be for a good performance or to offset fighters still making low base pay from their original contracts with the UFC. Guys from the reality show sign I believe 6 fight deals at relatively low pay.
Kimbo made 175K in his fight against Tank Abbott. I'm not sure if that included his win bonus. I'd be willing to bet he he got some bonuses from Gary Shaw as well. The top guys aren't making Floyd Mayweather or De La Hoya money, but they are making millions per year. Some of the mid-card and lower tier guys aren't getting paid great, particularly if they are on the tail end of long-term deals they signed a few years back. Organizations throwing money around at certain fighters without a solid base are quickly folding. The UFC having a tight leash on fighter pay has allowed it to grow to it's current level. But, there are definitly growing pains right now as fighter pay has to match up with increased revenue. They have a long way to go to match the major team sports and Golden Boy Promotions and the like in boxing.
In terms of boxing, Kimbo would gas early. He has decent hands, but he would have to completely overhaul his training to have a chance.Comment

maybe the top guys have ppv incentive but how many top guys are there? The salary figures which are publicly released by the UFC are not entirely accurate.

let me get the article. i looked it up the other day because i was debating with someone about how much mma get paid compare to boxing. when i saw it i was shocked. although it's in ufc interest to downplay people salaries so others don't get jealous.
here's what i found:

This reminds me of the time that Venus Williams said that she could beat any man ranked 100 or lower.
Then some dude ranked, like, 457 challenged her and scrubbed her 6-1, 6-0Comment

You mean vintage Chris Byrd, right? Because Kimbo's arm wind would knock Chris Byrd out right nowComment

Tough to say how many have PPV bonuses set in their contract. Could range anywhere from 10-20 guys I'd say.maybe the top guys have ppv incentive but how many top guys are there?

Those numbers are terribly low, but they are from 2005. A LOT has changed since then. The pay scale is still unbalanced in favour of Zuffa and the UFC, but when the sport was just starting to garner mainstream attention things were worse. Boxing, NFL, NHL, MLB, etc. have had decades to set a fair and balanced pay structure, the UFC and MMA in general have literally had about 5 years to bridge the gap between increased revenue and fighter pay. The UFC is really the only MMA organization that has been able to garner large amounts of revenue. Most other organizations are either bleeding money from giving out contracts they can't afford to pay or making small profits, but not being able to compete with the UFC juggernaut. But, in order to become a legitimate contender with the UFC at least in North America and the UK these organizations have to grow steadily and have a smart business plan.
Taking a look at the figures released to the public for UFC 84 on May 24th the figures have made fairly significant jumps...

But, as the article you posted showed, the guys who signed deals as a result of appearing on the reality show suffered the most. But, a lot of the guys from the first couple seasons have finally been able to negotiate new contracts which are more in line with their talent and value.Comment
