The Great White Hope Bandwagon Makes Me Sick

I love the fact that Pavlik is the new great white hope. His appeal is in his vulnerability but dont be fooled because he is very good and very tough. The guy is as close to a real life Rocky Balboa as it gets. Every fight he always looks hurt but always gets up from the canvas and knocks fools out. His style is basic but what the **** else do you want from the kid?? You dont win a championship in any sport by getting fancy. Fundamentals win championships and noone is more fundamentally sound than Pavlik today.

Im also going to state some facts. The term "great white hope" was coined to refer white AMERICAN fighters fighting black AMERICAN champions. While there are several white champs today, all but Pavlik are european therefore cannot be the great white hope. If Pavlik vs Calzaghe ever happens rest assured the buildup will revolve around these facts and Calzaghe will be greatly antagonized

Pavlik is not another great white hope. he can really fight. all the other
fighters got famous simply because they were white. Pavlik on the other
hand can really fight and he earnt his way to what he has become today
no one handed anything to him unlike the other white hopes. white hope
only goes to those fighters that got the breaks because of their color
Pavlik has fought and beat the best in front of him and done it in
convincing fashion. for that all boxing fans should be glad
that in Pavlik we have a throwback fighter fighting in this day and age.
he is truly dedicated to the sport of boxing and you can see it
in his victories.

its an insult to Pavlik and Calzaghe to call them white hopes. white hopes are when some promoter takes any old white guy and puts them in against bums to build their records .... and they can't really fight a lick ....
Pavlik and Calzaghe are true professionals and they give the sport of boxing a good name . they aren't there to hold or lie down or get paid
they are there to win and to fight the best.

Even people on here, I'm not going to name any names but people are calling the Middleweight Champion of the World a "white hope" And that shows their racial bias. A white hope is someone who gets exposed in a title fight and shouldn't have been there in the first place. Someone who had the complexion to get the connection. Definitely not Pavlik who had to fight 31 fights and go up against the likes of Zuniga,Zertuche, and Edison Miranda. Who did Taylor fight before Hopkins? Don't hate on Pavlik, it's not his fault he can attract the casual fans to the sport.

And all the "Blue collar small town boy" bull**** from the boxing commentators etc is ****ing lame and very cheesy, they could just come out and say hey we finally got a white boy who's white american instead of spanish speaking guy, black guy, or russian guy.

The whole thing is nauseating and the sooner pavlik gets KTFO the better. Taylor shouldve finished the **** when he had the chance.

The "white hope" is only applicable for American heavyweights.
