Was just about to point that out also.

Another of his nicknames, aside from "The Mighty Atom" as he is called on Boxrec, was "The ghost with a hammer in his hand".

You just couldn't find the guy in his prime, and if you did, it's only because he had just knocked you out.

Plus the guy fought on a weekly basis. Pretty much week in week out, EVERY week almost.

EDIT: Just had a thought about his opponents records also. Boxrec is not that reliable when it comes to the records of some of the older fighters, and have been known to get it vastly wrong. Some of his competition was of an impressve standard.

he doesnt look all that fantastic from the little video Ive seen of him, but of course, thats not much...

and his record looks nice, at 137-5, but a ton of his opponents had very few fights, if any. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...boxer&pageID=3
      http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...boxer&pageID=2
      http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...boxer&pageID=1

and then he had title defences against guys like George Clark and **** Heasman who had never fought professionally before and never won professional match in their career. and then others were against guys like 'Young Zulu Kid' who just did not have a good record at all...doesnt look that great.

      someone care to educate me?
He came out of a YEAR retirement to fight Pancho Villa and lost. It was his 3rd Career loss and had 131 wins and 3 losses with 99 KO's that is one of the most impressive records ive ever seen. He was amazing, first Flyweight world champion he was only 5 ft 2 and in an age where weight limits didn't really matter all that much he was fighting people that outweighed him by 20-30 pounds sometimes. He fought bantamweights and was knocking them out.

He beat every top ranked Flyweight there was and i mean every single on for the american, british, etc.. Flyweight titles and won the world title (back then regional titles meant alot more than they do now) He fought Joe Conn a highly regarded featherweight for a £3000 bag of diamonds and stopped him. He stopped joe Lynch who became bantamweight world Champion in his next few fights giving up as much as 15 pounds in the process. He then fought Pete Herman and Herman outweight him by 25 pounds in a fight where Wilde was stopped in the 17th round. The man never weighed more than 108 pounds.

Edit: Boxrec has Wilde having 137 fight 99KO's and 5 losses, my book says 133 fight 99KO's 3 losses but it doesn't really matter still and amazing record

Even if the guy had been fighting tomato cans, to stay that dominant for that long is a tremendous achievment.
I really look at the competition that fighters beat, rather than numbers.

I mean, look at Buck Smith. http://www.boxrec.com/list_bouts.php...6117&cat=boxer
the guys record at one point was 123-2-2. and he went undefeated for 101 bouts! that sounds amazing, but Buck Smith was not that great a fighter. he lost every time he stepped up, and only had that record because he faced garbage competition.
so, in other words, records dont really say anything to me unless theres more to it than numbers.

can anyone tell me guys he beat that makes him deserving of a top p4p fighter? Im kind of expecting pretty huge wins.

He was born to an Italian father and a Welsh mother, in a city they were visiting at the time, they intended to be back in Wales before he was born.

The man has Welsh ancestory, and considers himself Italian and Welsh, not Italian and English, WELSH.

It's funny how fast the people who used to chant things such as "You Welsh bastard" have changed their tune now he is a top P4P fighter.

                    All aboard the glory train!
