This post is from my experience in Australia. So bear that in mind.

If you don't have cable you don't get any boxing on normal networks, and pay per views are quite expensive. Most people will only go watch a match if its the big names, and people normally want a knockout. But there hasn't been any really competitive fights lately that got the crowd going. (I have missed the last 3 big ones)

Also we got mundine and he does nothing for the sport bar fight crappy opposition and claim he is "the man".

Boxing's not dying. And if it is, it's due to the inability to showcase fresh and up and coming talent. To much reliant on brand names without constantly building for the future. not MMA.

I'm happy for them. I realize the dedication they have and the sacrifices they make for that sport. I just don't see it as a superior product or a threat to professional boxing.

            fer ****s sake.

the success of mma will have little impact on the global sport of boxing. they are two different combat sports.

so what if some people decide to watch mma over boxing? there is still enough global interest in boxing and enough emerging stars to safeguard the future of the sport.

Because Mayweather was P4P best and cotto isn’t. If boxing could make a superstar in one day why didn’t they do this for the heavyweight division which carries boxing.
If Cotto wins the Margarito fight he will have just as much credibility probably more than mayweather at being p4p. And right now the heavyweight division is in such a mess it wouldnt make sense for them to do that, the most obvious superstar in heavyweight would be wlad if they sell him as being the face of boxing then he loses to sam peter or someone else it would just be useless. In hopefully a year or something when the heavyweight division isnt a mess maybe they can do something with it
