I am fed up with all these incoherent knee-jerk reactions.
Boxing is NOT dying.
People (kball15 cough cough) think boxing is dying because MMA got a network TV deal...
There is a reason why MMA got a network TV deal and not boxing, and it has nothing to do with the health of boxing as a sport.
Simply put, MMA is a cheap sport to broadcast. The fighters get paid next to nothing, and Network gets to keep more of the advertising revenues.
Network deal for boxing is simply not feasible because the fighters demand MUCH MUCH larger purses. The kinds of money that the networks are not willing to pay.
Yes, MMA still remains Boxings ******ed cousin.
Some people claim that here no no stars left with Mayweather's "retirement".
Once again, total bull****. As with every sport, new talent does not emerge until the old talent has disappeared. Boxing has historically gone is cycles. The old superstars retire, the young lions fight for the title, and they eliminate the competition until they themselves are superstars, then they fight each other... and retire... starting the process over again.
The retirement of the Oscars and Floyds, and Winkys and Hopkins of the world makes room for the young fighters to rise up and take their place. The Petersons, and Linares', and Dirrels, and Berto's, and Wards of the worlds.
The future of boxing is brighter than ever.
Cotto and Pavlik are already on the cusps of superstardom. Many MANY young prospects are on the verge of bursting onto the scene.
Yes... boxing is alive. Infact, boxing is thriving...
