If MMA gets better than means more young kids will join MMA and it will in return increase the skill level in MMA while boxing standards drop.

Chad Dawson is nothing special. Cotto is nothing special himself. I thought the heavyweight was the only division that was weak now the picture is completing changing. Boxing as a whole has dropped. We should be worried that MMA got a network deal and boxing didn’t.
did you just say Cotto is not special :S!

MMA is a carnival sport that hasn't yet proven that it is more than a fad. Even if it thrives, it won't kill boxing. The network got the deal because those guys work cheap. Getting a network deal and consistently delivering ratings are two different things.

Boxing is thriving once more in the UK, your always going to have great boxers come through because its a olympic sport, we have just invested ****loads into Amateur's and it shows the depth of talent in the UK ready to go pro has never been better, look at Frankie Gavin winning UK's first ever gold medal at the worlds. The future's bright! we even have fighters on main, prime time television here to! The majority of MMA fans are wrestling fans that have grown up, the main reason UFC won't ever be as big as boxing is because its one organisation, fighters don't fight when they want to they have to wait and get in line.

UK boxing is thriving. Hatton exposed like a girl infront of the world. Calzaghe struggles with a 43 year old man. David Haye we have to wait and see. Boxing is not dead but dying. Kimbo Slice is more known that every active boxer now except Oscar De La Hoya. That sums up boxing. The heavyweight ain’t going places anytime soon.

People act like floyd was always a big star from the first day he fought. Up until his Oscar fight only boxing fans knew him. Stars can easily be made in boxing they have the promotion, money, and platform. If boxing was in danger of dieing I guarantee they would have hundreds of options to boost ratings at a cost of course. For example: pavlik as the white hope, cotto as a undefeated welterweight titleholder, oscar's final fight against cotto (that would be a huge fight probably at the same level as floyds fight).

People underestimate the power of marketing which boxing has plenty of and they could make a star overnight if they wanted.

Oh shut the **** up and stop trolling, Kimbo Slice got famous on the internet for street fighting thats it. Hatton just sold out 56,000 in 24 hours and you wanna talk about boxing is dead? Calzaghe didn't struggle vs a 43 year old and that 43 year old was top 10 p4p and coming of a career best win vs Tarver. Haye is the undisputed cruiserweight champion in under 22 fights, last year we had 7 world champions, yes few have fallen but were doing well and the talent we got coming through like Khan the future is good. Who cares if a fighter looses, but boxing is nothing like what your trying to make out its FAR FROM DEAD FAR FROM IT! now shut the **** up and poke your sweaty finger in your sisters fanny.

Cotto vs Oscar won’t be even close to Mayweather vs Oscar. WHY?
Because Mayweather was P4P best and cotto isn’t. If boxing could make a superstar in one day why didn’t they do this for the heavyweight division which carries boxing.

This is not rocket science ...The Sport itself is not THE DRAW.
what drives people to watch...IT Is the Athletes

The people who plays the Sports is the main factor for viewership...!!!

Why is it that is these sports ratings are up when these athletes play and down when they dont..???

                    1.Tiger Woods = Golf
                    2.Kobe Bryant = Basketball
                    3.Terrell Owens = Football
4.Oscar De La Hoya = Boxing
                    5.Floyd Mayweather = Boxing
                    6.Barry Bonds = Baseball
                    7.Dale Earlhart Jr= Nascar

So if people who Play the Sport is Obviously the reason why people watch the sport.
                    What is more important..?

the sport or the athlete to the viewer..??

                    or

Are is it a duality which neither can exist without the other....!!!

And if you agree that there is duality and people watch the sport because of the athlete and vice versa

Stop with this you have to be a Fan of the Sport more the athlete Bull****...
Because without the Athlete their is no Sport..!

That why Floyd's Retirement is a big blow to Boxing....

That's the reason Why did Hockey Lost alot of viewers when Gretzky retired
That's the reason Why did Basketball Lose alot of viewers when Jordan retired
That's the reason Why boxing will Lose alot of viewers not that Floyd is retired

THERE CAN NOT BE SPORTS WITHOUT THE ATHLETES....and vice versa

Floyd's Retirement is bad for boxing
