A lot of Johnny Come Lately's who caught the tail end of careers should go back and study.

Anyone who listened to Roy Jones commentate on HBO as an analyst knows that he was an INCREDIBLE student of the game. His knowledge was simply unmatched. No surprise - he usually beat his opponents by outsmarting them.

In spite of his obvious mastery of the idiosyncracies of boxing, some people believe he relied on just raw talent, like some #1 draft pick could just crossover to boxing and become a pound for pound talent for over a decade, beat up some of the world's best boxers and accomplish all the other things that Jones did.

    NONSENSE.

Jones was an incredibly skilled boxer in his prime - one Bernard Hopkins admits he stole some things from after fighting him. Talent couldn't teach his footwork, ability to anticipate, counterpunch, his combinations, none of that.
    People just don't get it.

More talent...makes up for less skill.

More skill makes up for less natural Talent.

        Feel me?
For instance, the body shot to ****** hill..... roy kept giving him the over hand right, over and over... eventually he realized virgil hill was expecting it, and he went underneath to the body... and BAM body KO... thats not talent, thats skill, thinking ability...

        thats just one example

so many people try to say.. he was just a good athlete... thats why he did so good...

well go take kobe bryant, throw some gloves on him and see well he does... roy is a whole lot more than just, athletically gifted... he been doin it since he was a teenager.. im sure he knows a thing or two

lol.. of course kobe couldn't do what roy does....

I never said Roy was an athlete.. (though he is of course) I was referring to his incredible Gifts...

And i said given 10 years to suffice. I think mayweathers shoulder defense could definitely be learned to a great ability..... but who has 10 years to do so.

But anyway this discussion could go on forever...
2 of my favorites so no problem here.... i just think mayweather is more skilled overall.though jones has A multitude of skill higher than most also.

Yeah, but if we're talking about head to head who is better and more dominant it goes to a Primed RJJ. Nobody could beat a primed RJJ head to head in history. Period. (Pound for pound of course, I would give the greatest heavyweights a shot at beating Roy since he was much smaller naturally).

i bet you if kobe loved boxing as much as he does basketball , he'd be pretty damn good.

the guy would spar 15 rounds every day.

athletic. great stamina. 6 foot 6 215 lbs.

......on a sadder note.........we let tonight's game get away those crappy celtics were trying to give it away it was there!!!!!!
