I forget what kind of numbers that fight did. Was there a good crowd at the Garden? I imagine there were a lot of Puerto Ricans.

    • What Jones did to Hopkins, Toney and Ruiz Mayweather never did. Mayweather never got ktfo but that's cause he rarely takes risks.

it did 500k ppv buys, and the house was packed... id say 10% were roy fans it was pretty much titos house.. but roy didnt let them even become apart of the fight... i had an absolute blast... a lot of people dont like his showboating... but when your actually there, you should see the way he gets reactions from the crowd... its almost a show

          You mean decisioning them convincingly?

Or you mean fighting Middleweight and Heavyweights?

Ok, one last thing and I'm done with this comparison.

Jones/Tarver I - I scored for Tarver and in the rematch we know what happens.

Mayweather/Castillo I - I scored for JLC and in the rematch Floyd took a clear decision.

and i admitted in your sig thread, that i may have overlooked the fact that roys speed=power where hearns had more raw power, which silencer said, and i agreed with him and said maybe i didnt look at the full spectrum, so i was probably wrong on what i said about the power difference

no need to put it in your sig... as i already came out and said i was wrong...

although, if u feel the need to keep it there, its your prerogative

But Roy was 34, Floyd was 24...

HUGE difference, anyway I dont think there is really any point made in the post you were answering to

True, but I don't think you need to bring age into it as the second fights took place almost immediately after the first.

well i think the biggest difference in the age, with what wmute is saying.. is that your reflexes definitely show differences between 24 and 34... 24 floyd was BLOOMING prime... and roy was definitely sliding off the mountain... i think the fluctuation in his weight.. at his age... just couldnt handle it

although, i wont make excuses.. roy got caught... judging by the first round... roy looked sharper in the 2nd fight... but who knows how he wouldve looked down the stretch...

The fights were close, but Roy looked like he had tubercolosis in the 1st fight... He was green! at least his skin was different than usual... Age was already there in the 1st fight, and quite visibly.

Find me a slickster who bases large part of his success on speed who is not shot by 33? Leonard, Whitaker weren't doing much better than Roy... Even Robinson was having a much different success at that age than in his prime.

Mayweather, we'll just wait and see, but he is so well rounded he might pull somewhat of a Hopkins and last longer.
