The genius of beating Baldomir by Mayweather

First off, Floyd has a good overall resume, but really at 147 specifically, he does not have a deep body of work (4 fights) and Mitchell and Judah coming off of a loss are not great. Baldomir is a pretty good win, but now that Baldomir has just been absolutely nosediving, that win looks less glamorous than it did. Hatton is a great win IMO, but a lot of people seem convinced that he is a 140 pounder who can't fight at 147. In short, his 147 resume is not the type of resume that would place someone that high in another division. IE if Chad Dawson had beaten that kind of competition at 175, he likely wouldn't be so highly regarded.

But still, even after Floyd has signed a De La Hoya rematch, and the rumors are there for the Hatton rematch, people are STILL gunning for him at 147.

Would they still be gunning for him at 147 if he wasn't the lineal RING champion? Really, no matter what happens, a lot of people are going to consider him the champion of that division until he loses, so he will always be in the discussion for the best fights at welterweight.

If he hadn't beaten Baldomir, he may still have been in the discussion for these fights, but there might have been the Ricky Hatton syndrome of calling him too small for the weight.

I am not 100% sure that this was the plan from the beginning, but if it was? Kudos to Floyd for constructing such a great plan to keep his name in the headlines no matter what he does. He really CAN choose his fights because of it.

Floyd is the money man at welterweight he may not bring the money Delahoya brings but its still a good payday. And thats why people gun for him and the other small note that he supposedly is the best at welterweight.
