lol@me being a newbie. Post your ring experience and how long you've been watching so I can have a good laugh at you.

Ring rankings do make a lot of sense, but so do linear titles. You're basically arguing that one means nothing and the other one is perfect. You are therefore a huge idiot.

Just admit it, this is another Margarito ballswinging thread, you've just tried to disguise it better this time.

If this was supposed to be about Margarito, it is even crazier than I suspected. By no stretch of the imagination has Margarito fought better welter opposition than Cotto, or even just better opposition. Both Judah and Mosley, and possibly even Quintana were better than any welter Margarito has ever fought, possibly excepting Williams, to whom margarito lost.

I prefer Margarito to Cotto BTW, but that doesn't change the facts.

I saw ducking Margarito and then lineal championship not meaning **** on the first page, so...

And still, he answered my post and said no, one loss to Tszyu Judah is a less credible win than Cintron (who had beaten no one) and Clottey (who had beaten no one). Funny. FFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNYYYYY YYYYYYYY

no cotto hasn't.................margs has fought better comp at welter than cotto and floyd.......and i am a floyd supporter.............people first said, margs was scared of williams............margs took that fight.........people said floyd ducked margs..........when everyone in the know knew Arum wanted to smear floyd for leaving Arum........he couldn't guarantee floyd 8 mil to fight a no-name in margs who at the time nobody knew..........and third, now cotto fans kill me using quintana as a top welter because he beat williams........which makes cotto look good because quintana beat williams........they called quintana a straight coward.........but propped him up the minute he beat williams.........lol.....beating the lineal champ makes you the best if you are floyd mayweather.........or if that lineal champ is legit in the eyes of the public........cotto wouldn't even have a title had baldy never been stripped.....

You only have to read these forums or read or watch boxing media to see that neither fans nor writers nor anyone actually has a consensus.

Linear titles exist solely to solve this problem, so I would have to say that yes, they are important, and no, we cannot disregard them.

The best fighter is the most dominant fighter in his division, regardless of what title he holds. The linear champ has this distinction by default sometimes, but not all the time. On the subject of PBF, which is what this thread was supposed to be about, he has the linear title and is the most skilled boxer at 147. But despite that, his refusal to fight his top challenger minimizes his claim to bein the best. You can't just win the title then stop defendin it and still be considered the man. Unbiased eyes see the Cotto v Marg winner as the best WW until Floyd fights and defeats him.
