The problem with disregarding the linear championship in favour of a "beat the best" policy, is the question of who decides who the best is. Boxing fans? Boxing writers? Some sort of hypothetical consensus? Its all very subjective. You only have to read these forums or read or watch boxing media to see that neither fans nor writers nor anyone actually has a consensus.
Linear titles exist solely to solve this problem, so I would have to say that yes, they are important, and no, we cannot disregard them.Comment
