Business is business and if it makes dollars it makes sense and July 26th will show many that a Cotto fight just doesn't make sense right now. 500,000 buys may be a bit much for these two but with the promotion coming up soon maybe 400,000 is not out of range, but it won't do that much, it will have to claw and grab at 300,000 because only die-hards know who these two are and its a shame because I won't to see Floyd fight Cotto as soon as possible.
what are you talking about?? mayweather-cotto makes plain and basic common sense.

All these people claim to be backing Cotto but dont tune in to watch him, hmm.
I read your post, yet you conveniently skimmed straight over my post. Why is this?

Just in case you didn't, and it was a mistake, here it is again:

I see your point but not always.

Calzaghe Kessler was VERY lowly rated on HBO.
Oscar Tito turned a lot of people off about boxing. I still know people who are pissed about that.

Calzaghe and kessler were both not that big in the states at the time though, but I see what you say about Oscar Tito.

Surely that's a risk with every fight though? There is always a chance it could be a borefest, especially with afighter as defensively minded as Mayweather.

My arguement is that I believe if he were to keep holding out for "more fans" as many people are claiming, he may turn off already established fans whilst trying to attract new ones to the sport. New ones who may watch the fight and decide that boxing isn't for them.

He may be doing more harm than good, the trouble is it is impossible to tell.

Floyd has also stated that he is an entertainer these days, and has no intention of fighting the top competition because he has already proven himself. Can you imagine what an ordinary "non fan" will think when they hear the best fighter in the world say things like that? Some way to build up the sport...

I think the fight should happen. It would be awesome.

But if Floyd is trying to build it up I see why holding it off a year is a good idea. Cotto is not a good draw on HBO. Much like Floyd wasn't until he developed a plan to become so. It was very calculated. I imagine that Floyd's idea is to want Cotto to try that aspect of it harder.

I personally know a lot of people who are not boxing fans who would pay to see this fight, just on word of mouth alone. Floyds claims that it is not big enough are somewhat unfounded.

If somebody who didn't know boxing at all asked you, how would you explain the fight to them?

Again obviously you didnt read my original post as I answered your question before you even asked it, I said and everybody says they want to see it, but it will be a bigger fight later on, if you have followed boxing for awhile this is obvious.

If you want to blame someone, blame Bob Arum, he is a good matchmaker but obviously not good at promoting fighters in the sense of getting their name out there, thats why Floyd left him, DLH left him, and look at all the things Cotto has accomplished but only die hards know him as well as Margarito.
