This is in no way an endorsement of Floyd's statements. I do agree with him however on the point that boxing needs mainstream exposure. Where we diverge on opinion is whether or not he is the appropriate vessel to voice that opinion. Floyd by virtue of this character he has created for himself "Money May" ; will never achieve mainstream appeal. He is less Will Smith more 50 cent which in the end does not endear him to the Networks (ABC,CBS and NBS) - these networks hold the key to bringing back boxing's mainstream appeal.
Chasing money will not stir up general interest in the sport. Chasing challenges however will generally end up in print and web media, which in turn drives revenue and consumer appeal. Floyd just isn't the one to do it. What am I getting at with all this? Floyd just fight Cotto and bow out....Last edited by switchsouthpaw; 06-01-2008, 04:51 PM.Comment

No only do I not get hit but I dont fight competition either.
If the object is to hit and not get hit Floyd has mastered the art because not only is he not getting hit.. he's no longer fighting competition either. In his own words he is an entertainer now. Floyd and Ellerbe have to be gay.
Why does Floyd have to show his opponent and ppl that he has a great chin?? Isn't that his opponent's job to do?? Why risk losing and taking punishment when your controlling the fight and winning. Its not Floyd's job to show he has a good chin it's his opponent job to that.
Have u ever boxed before?? The object of the game is to hit and not get hit. Nobody wants to take unnecessary punishment thats just plain dumb even when your the best boxer in the world.
ONE PUNCH CAN END A FIGHT MY FRIEND!!Comment

Bottomline: Floyd is afraid. Money only excuse left.
Bottomline: Floyd is afraid. Money only excuse left and really that is not an excuse because he turned down 8M from Margarito. He should just retire cause cause its clear he's a coward.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. and his close adviser, Leonard Ellerbe, have spoken out on the reasoning for a rematch with Oscar De La Hoya, and why a fight with WBA welterweight champion Miguel Cotto does not make sense. According to both men, Floyd is chasing mainstream fame and the big money. Mayweather and Ellerbe don't feel Cotto is a big enough fight to take. [details]Comment

No one is saying otherwise. I don't think Mayweather is doing any good for boxing too! I was just saying, what can you expect from a fighter who is hated since 05 and has every opponent he beats discredited? He could care less about the p4p crown it is bound to go to Calzaghe eventually as soon as he disposes of yet another +40 year old. The irony is the guy fighting 40 year olds has his opponent CREDITED after the match (and before) dispiste all the facts. Neither Cal or May are good for boxing but they are just playing the game.Comment
