New fans are great and I welcome them.

But I refuse to treat them like they know anything about the sport with only 6 months under their belt.
I think he could beat a prime Toney... but not Roy. Toney had problems with fighters who had the faster hands like RJJ, Micheal Nunn who he caught in the end but was behind on the cards and he needed the KO.

I hate when a fanboy will come on the the board proclaim his fanboyishness and his amazing fighter and then everyone who doesn't agree come on the thread and just post **** about the guys favourite fighter. I've done it everyone is guilty of doing it, I've tried to avoid slagging off any world champion because what they have done is get to the top they've done what pretty much everyone here couldn't do. I dislike Hopkins but it doesn't take away from what he has done. Next time don't look at a fighter style, fans or comments (even if they are bordering on the ridiculous like Floyd's claim that he's better than SRR because he's undefeated pretty much no one was undefeated back then and SRR has the longest undefeated streak etc.) but it doesn't take aay from what floyd has done great fighter, terrible personality but in boxing it doesn't matter.

So next time someone proclaims there fighter is the greatest ever in the world just .... ignore them.

I've been a calzaghe fan since i saw him fight Byron Mitchell in 2003, around the time i started watchign the sport properly. I know there are some fans who have simply jumped on the bandwagon, but others have been following him for years.

its amazing that on pretty much every boxing forum, poster assume you only started watching boxing on your join date.

what the ****s all that about?

heres a little theory. a lot of boxing fans who may or may not have followed calzaghe for a number of years, got quite excited about his win over kessler and so searched for boxing forums to join to see what kind of reaction people from around the world were having after the fight.

i think you might find that quite a lot of people join boxing forums shortly before or after a big fight.

I watched Joe Calzaghe put Paul Hanlon away inside a single round from ringside and it was the greatest moment of my life, my first live boxing match. Ever since then I have been a fan of Calzaghe and boxing.

Not many. Not many. It was impossible to even know who he was considering he never fought on the big time networks against big time opponents. Sure, everybody had seen his name, but nobody, NOBODY outside of Wales had a clue who this guy was.

I think it has more to do with the comments. They never talk about anything that happened more than 5 years ago and make the most absurd statements (yes, claiming Calzaghe stood a chance against Roy or Toney in the 90s and early 2000s is an absurd statement)

No, Calzaghe has been known in the UK for over 10 years. All of his title fights have been shown live on UK TV, so many of us have been watching him for a long time.

Calzaghe did fight on Showtime on more than one occassion. I have the downloaded broadcasts. I'm not sure when his first fight on Showtime was but it was at least 5 years ago.

There is life outside of HBO. I know you aren't fond of European fighters but all you seem to do is complain "I've never heard of this guy!". You have it in your head that nobody knew who Calzaghe was. Sorry, but that just isn't true. Most of us actually follow boxing rather than just watching whatever's on HBO.
