Is Tysons KO power overrated: Yes.
Is Tyson a devastating puncher: Yes.
Is he in the top 20 hardest punchers: Maybe.
Is he a harder puncher than Wlad: No.
    Wlad has KO'd better competition.

    Examples please.

Tyson is made out to be some kind of collosus puncher by myth.
He was human, and some durable guys took him the distance.
But an argumant can be made to suggest against my claim.
Take a common opponent for instance: Francois Botha.
Tyson KO'd him after losing for 4 rounds and Wlad dominated him and TKO'd him in the 8th. One would assomb that Tyson has more single punch power due to this. I think it is because he was more reckless and went for the KO ALL of the time. That is probably what makes Tyson so feared, but I dont think it makes him a bigger puncher. If you would really want to get technical, Lennox Lewis destroyed Botha in less than 2 rounds, and I think Tyson and Wlad both have more single punch power than him.

      that is false bull****

I said the same thing lol

Hinestly fellas until we ourselves get in the ring and let these guys hit on us we will truely never know who was the harder hitter in the ring. You can Vlad or Tyson or Foreman and in fact any of these answers are probably correct. they are all heavy handed punchers you don't get to 4-50 KO's with high KO % by being a light punchers. Was Tyson's power overated? I truely don't think so I mean just ask Mitch Green and his plastic surgeon if Mike hits hard. Tyson used to wo you and make you say OH MY GOD!!! Foreman was a hard puncher but Tyson had an unsual combination for a Heavy Weight and that is waht made him so great. he had great foot work and body movement add in tremndous hand speed and power in both hands. he could knock you out with either hand. His jab was a tremnedous weapon although he stopped using it effectively in the latter part of his career. The fact he was 5'11 and he dropped much bigger men in amazing fashion is amazing in it self. If you watch the post fight inteview with Lennox Lewis after their fight he said Tyson would have steam rolled him in his hay day. Was Foreman a harder hitter or more powerful i hope so he was a much biger man. Did his punches land with more power maybe. But question this who's punches landed quicker with greater effects? how many people got up off the canvas with Foreman and took him the distance? how many people went the distance with Iron Mike??? But like I sad you will never truel know until you get in the ring with them your selves. My guess is I rather get in the ring with George or Shavers then Tyson. I would have a better chance of moving from a slower more powerful puncheer then getting out of the way of a young hungry Mike Tyson. .....Left

Interestingly enough in an interview where the interviewer asked him did he think anyone in the heavyweight divsion today had power like him . He said that people always i think i was the hardest puncher but i dont think i was . i was very fast and accurate with my punches which enabled me to reach the target quicker and my accuracy enabled me to hit certain areas and thats what caused all those spectacular knock outs rather than my power . I was a very hard puncher but i didnt have the power of a foreman or shavers who could knock a guy out just hitting him in the back.

                    " Is Mike Tysons power over-rated "

Here is some evidence to how hard he hit.

Larry Holmes got put down by a Shavers bomb and got back up and went on to win.
Couldn't do it with Tyson and most consider Earnie to be one of the hatdest hitters ever and
Larry Holmes said Mike Tyson was the ONLY man he was ever SCARED of in the ring.

I'm sure they said Tysons punch at full power it had the same force as an 18Ibs sledgehammer hitting you.

It may have been overated from a single punch perspective but, his terrific (but, not the best) power COMBINED, with his speed and counter-punching from bobbing and weaving, cumulate into a Beast in the ring.

                    Andy.
