Hopkins hurt Calzaghe because he is technically sound and very accurate. Hopkins was also fighting way above 175 after rehydration. Pavlik will be at 168, throws inaccurately, and leaves himself open to get hit a lot. He wouldn't hurt Calzaghe. JoeCal has a spectacular chin, and gets better as the fight goes on (unlike Jermain Taylor, for example).

What will be exciting, however, is that both fighters have a tremendous punch output, and are fan favorites among their countrymen.

Kelly's power will always give him that big punchers chance, but skill wise, calzaghe is gonna beat him up till he either fears kellys power or gets KO'd by it

I love joe as much as the next brit but im not sure...i hope the fight gets made it woud be awesome...i dont like doubting joe but pavlik is good and joe certainly aint gonna knock him out so i think if joe can weather the storm and boxes like he did against kessler and lacy then he could win but this is one fight i would not put money on...could go either way IMO

if joe can box like he did against lacy then pavlik wont even hit him let alone knock him out...if he boxes like he did against b-hop its lights out!

I don't think Calzaghe feels pressure very much and whenever he is put under pressure in the ring he finds a way to deal with it.

The only things that Calzaghe has against him are his hands and his age. His hands aren't what they were and he doesn't punch as hard as he used to, nowadays he uses his skills a bit more by jabbing and keeping busy. Age can catch up on you, it has to at some point. In saying that Joe is known as the fittest guy in his gym, fitter than all the guys nearly half his age. His face is untouched and he has a great chin. People keep going on about him getting dropped by Hopkins in the first round, the real point is he got straight up, recovered and won the fight.

I think a young wild Calzaghe of a few years ago stands toe to toe with Pavlik and beats him easily stopping him in the middle rounds. An older Calzaghe who boxes better but with weaker hands might find it harder, but I still think he will have too much for Pavlik.

He is a great champion and great boxers find a way to deal with what is in front of them, that is until they age or decline through too many battles.

I'm predicting this right now, so listen up. IF Joe Calzaghe beats Kelly Pavlik and Roy Jones Jr beats a credible opponent in the meantime, they will meet in a bout called 'Retirement' or some ****. It sounds too good to be true, but I think it might happen.

On topic: Joe Calzaghe takes wins a UD over Kelly Pavlik. 116-112 I predict.

There is only one man winning this fight.

Joe has fought bigger punchers than Pavlik, and been hit flush by them (Lacy, Kessler, Eubank, etc.) so Pavliks power will not bother Joe.

Joe has fought people who were much better technically, and outboxed them (Hopkins, Kessler, Eubank, Reid etc.) so Pavlik is not going to be able to outbox Joe.

Pavlik is not as fast as Joe, Joe will beat him to the punch all night long.

Everyone raves about Pavlik's Jab, but Joe's is better and he will use it to reduce Pavlik's workrate considerably.

Pavlik fight's in straight lines, and Joe has outstanding movement. Joe, however, fights from everywhere, all kinds of angles. Last time I checked, Pavlik moves in one direction (not including when Joe puches him backwards) Pavlik will get picked off.

Joe has fought stronger (don't get confused with power) and bigger men and bullied them backwards (Lacy, Eubank, Kessler etc.) so Pavlik will not be coming forward. Can Pavlik fight on the back foot? He had better hope so...

Pavlik's chin is questionable at best. How many world class operators have been knocked down by Taylor? Taylor is the worst finisher I have ever seen, and gassed trying to end it. Joe is one of the best finishers I have seen, and will not tire himself out looking for the killer blow.

The only way Pavlik beats joe is with a stick while he sleeps, but in a ring, not a prayer.
