Recognizing the WBO is now saying you have to win 4 world title to be the man at a weight divsion. When then it was only three, WBC, WBA, IBF.

Calzaghe was made because even though most of us Americans didn't really know his opponets the guy keep winning and even beat some of our good contenders like Omar Sheika. But the fight that really made Calzaghe was the "LACY FIGHT." Which then you can say he won a real title IBF. Cause this fight gave Calzaghe the respect he wanted. You didn't see or hear the same respect for Calzaghe before he beat Lacy.

Margarito was made because again he kept winning and beating some good opponets and hadn't lost in years at weltweight yet, the top welterweights didn't want to fight him. What made him is himself with a little bit of hype followed by him winning streak followed by the top welterweights not wanting to fight Margarito. Again i wouldn't say it was the WBO that made him. Beating Antonio Diaz got him the win and exposer he needed to ask for people to take him serious as a Welterweight or at least a way to make some noise starting with that win.
I misphrased what I meant. I meant that the WBO helped to put them where they were at before their big marquis victories. Margarito was certainly helped by a long, long WBO reign. I think that is, in part, why Margarito was ranked so high by The Ring for such a long time. Everything I just said for Margarito rings true for Calzaghe as well IMO.

I wish we could go back in time and change it, but I think it is too late. The only thing we can do now is to will the IBO to go **** itself, because it is the new fringe title that is the closest to becoming legitimate I think.

You're about Margarito and especially Calzaghe. Hamed got a lot of mileage out of the WBO title as well. De La Hoya's first championship was the WBO 130 lb title.

The reason the WBO is now on a par with the others isn't because they distiguished themselves, but because the WBC, WBA, and (especially) the IBF disgrace themselves.

The few who got the most elite votes, Forrest,Spinks and Vargas were all beat by Mayorga. lol

Most of the list were elite(at the time) IMO. Anyone who holds a few championships at the same time and is fighting other great fighters is elite.

I don't know who Harry Simon is or Miguel Gonzalez, but yeah. All those guys have performed at the top of their divisions at one point or another.
