Here's how Hatton could have beaten Cotto: Cotto at 140 was good, but he was also severely weight drained as evidenced by his wobbly legs. As a result Cotto could fight well in patches but he didn't like to be in with anyone who would keep up the pace. Nobody could and nobody did but Hatton would have been able to keep up the pace and withstand punches enough to put money in the bank.

So Hatton could have beaten the harder-punching more technically sound Cotto by his usual formula of non-stop aggression and not taking a round off.

At 147 Cotto is not weight drained, is naturally bigger and stronger and hasn't shown the problems associated with weight drain (lack of punch resistance / needing to pace himself) so it's a less attractive proposition for Hatton.

Cotto seemed to have very legitimate power at 140. you really think Ricky would had been able to take a power left from Cotto seeing how often Ricky leaves the door open?

At any weight Cotto would destroy Hatton. Cotto is a better boxer, bigger, stronger and way more powerfull.

Now all of you can see why Mayweather picked Hatton. Hatton was way overated and people gave him a lot more credit than he deserved.
