Don't get me wrong, Cortez went from being one of the best refs in the game to being among the worst. You can see it in the final instructions when he says "Remember guys, [pause so he can get the drama] I'm fair bu I'm firm." He wants to be a star. He wants to insert himself into a pivotal role in the fight so he can increase his fame.

That's not his role, he should stick to reffing and let the fighters do their jobs.

Even with Cortez trying to be a star, Hatton still was on his way to getting the crap beat out of him. Mayweather was outfighting him on the inside as well.

Jay Nady is the best ref out there IMO.

Graham is in a dreamworld if he really believes Cortez was the difference in that fight.

there were a million differences..... and all of them evidenced the gulf in quality between Floyd and Ricky.
Look I will admit that Ricky was pre warned about **** before it happend too ****ing much to be honest with you, Cortez was treating Ricky un fair and Floyd was fouling Ricky right in front of Joe That is a fact and to deny that is to just be a ****ing hating ass nuthugging ***** who wouldnt know the truth if it slapped them in the face
Bottom line is Floyd still would have won, the difference is Ricky would have done better.

i kind of see what graham is saying Cortez was too involved in the action while in the Hopkins-Calzaghe fight he let Hopkins do all his dirty tricks. Is kind of sad seen a great referree being so parcial to a fighter or to certain figthers. But in the other hand Cortez or no Cortez Floyd will beat Hatton any day of the week. Hatton prove he is not strong enough to KO Mayweather, and he look way too onedimensional, to beat a guy like Floyd. Floyd is too fast and too slick and smart to get beat up by a Walking forward no defense at all Fighter. Same situation as Cotto-Margarito!

And Roy wouldn't have been KO'd by Tarver if he ducked.

So Ricky wasn't allowed to hold and hit. So he was actually forced to fight within the rules. And he got WAXED.

That wasnt what happend though, anytime Ricky even got close to Floyd Joe would tell him to break, anytime Floyd would grab Ricky, Ricky was the person warned in the fight, Joe would be standing right in front of the two when Floyd clearly had his elbow in Rickys neck and somehow Ricky would be warned for holding yet Joe didnt issue a single warning to Floyd for his share of holding and using the elbow.
I aint saying Ricky would have won but I do feel that the ref did over step his boundries in the fight he should have remained unbiased that didnt happen, Listen Joe has done this kind of **** before in the past, infact watch Bowe Holyfield 1 how many times did Bowe get away with low blows? and Why didnt Cortez rule the KD in round 11 legit when it was an illegal shot clearly to the back of the head?
point is Joe did **** up in that fight, and in no way am I saying it would have changed the out come but atleast Ricky would have been able to leave the states knowing he had a fair shake, I am sorry but I agree that Ricky was done dirty that doesnt mean I think he would have won I just feel he got the dirty end of the stick.

This is pissing me off now, alot, they are now blaming the whole loss on the referee,Hatton didnt lose on points,he got his head knocked off and knocked out,Mayweather was on the verge of stopping him in the 8th,in the 9th Mayweather schooled Hatton and pushed his head back thousands of times with the jab,the best way to take defeat is to accept it,by blaming Cortez,Hatton is trying to cover it up
