I think he is more respected and more highly regarded now because the great Antonia Armargadita was getting his assed kicked by Clottey and the great Amargadita was unable to knock Clottey out.

Not really. It was a pretty ****ty fight, with probably more clinches than clean punches, and most of the clinches were initiated by Clottey himself. He had been warned several times in the fight for his clinching, low blows, holding behind the head and hitting, and most of all.. using a combination of a right hand lead, followed up by a headbutt. I had him winning most of the rounds in the first half of the fight, even though he was just doing enough to eek them out. Clottey got wobbled sometime in round nine by a Baldomir left, which was Baldo's best round of the fight. After that, Clottey's fouls became more and more frequent . He was deducted a point in round 10 for cutting Baldomir with a headbutt, and continued his rough house tactics in round 11. He lost another point early in the round for a headbutt, and eventually DQ'd after another headbutt. It's funny though, because Clottey looked pretty indifferent after the ref called the fight off.

Sure, he gave Margarito a good 'go' early. But, for the most part, Clottey has been the type of fighter who fights down to the level of his opposition.

His inability to put away a shot, above-weight Corrales is troubling. He has rarely dominated an opponent. He has never beaten a proven welterweight. He usually has a size advantage, given that he comes in to the fight weighing 170-ish.

Clottey seems like a nice guy, and a good guy, but....why is he so highly regarded as a fighter?
clottey is very tough and durable fighter with questionable losses he has never been dominated by anyone his lost to baldomir was because he was consistantly penalized and his fight with margarito could of went any way
