I don't know about you, but that does NOT make Tony look good.

Honestly the contract is signed so if that isnt good enough I dont know what is, lets forget about that and talk about the fight. the man did have enough balls to sign the contract so we need not focus on questioning the heart of Cotto none of the other welters had the balls to even sit down and seriously discuss a potential fight with Tony so lets not hate on Cotto here.
I think Margarito wins this fight and I think it ends with in six or seven rounds but in that process Margarito must not allow Cotto to get off to the body early, I think if he pushed Cotto back the night will only be easier if he goes back, this means he is trying to box and that is not Tonys style so if Tony does look to use his legs and box Cotto will take over and I dont think it will be close at all.
Tony must make it a dog fight and Cotto must get in and out play hit and dont get hit, its a pickem fight but Cotto makes mistakes and in with a guy like this you cant afford to make a single mistake.

His inability to put away a shot, above-weight Corrales is troubling. He has rarely dominated an opponent. He has never beaten a proven welterweight. He usually has a size advantage, given that he comes in to the fight weighing 170-ish.

Clottey seems like a nice guy, and a good guy, but....why is he so highly regarded as a fighter?
How highly is he regarded? He headlines Versus cards and can't seem to get the fights he wants. He's a top 10 welterweight and I think he's earned that, but no one is claiming he'd beat Floyd Mayweather or Miguel Cotto.

I have not seen Baldomir-Clottey. Who was up at the time of the DQ?

Guys who "look good in losing" are generally gatekeepers. Maybe fringe contenders AT BEST.

For example, Demarcus Corley. Chop is a guy who caught some good fighters with punches and gave them anxious moments. But he was never a top guy in his division.

I know Clottey was up. Scores were 8-2 or 7-3.

To be honest I never saw that fight either. It took place in England and wasn't televised in the US. However every single account of that fight I read or heard said that Clottey was far in front, and that the DQ was unwarranted.

I haven't heard many people put him at the top of the division. It is clear that FMJ and MAC are the class of the division. At least until Marg proves otherwise.

But Clottey is ranked 7 by RING and 5 by boxrec , etc. On the basis of good wins over nobody in particular.

For example, why is he ranked above Berto, even? Do you think Clottey beats Cintron? Quintana? Williams?
