Why is Joshua Clottey so highly regarded?

This is something that has confused me from the first time I saw him.

Sure, he gave Margarito a good 'go' early. But, for the most part, Clottey has been the type of fighter who fights down to the level of his opposition.

His inability to put away a shot, above-weight Corrales is troubling. He has rarely dominated an opponent. He has never beaten a proven welterweight. He usually has a size advantage, given that he comes in to the fight weighing 170-ish.

Clottey seems like a nice guy, and a good guy, but....why is he so highly regarded as a fighter?

any man who gives margarito trouble even for a round all of a sudden becomes a top fighter in the eyes of the fans. its plain and basic common sense.

And every guy who Miguel Cotto knocks out is labeled a bum, so the last "top fighter" that beat Margarito lost to a "bum" who was knocked out by Cotto.

I don't know about you, but that does NOT make Tony look good.

its because he looked good in losing to Baldimor and Margarito, Honestly Clottey is used as fuel to fead the Hate Margarito arguement, not that these guys think Clottey is anything good but that they hate Margarito so much that they tend to use Clotteys lossing performance as a messuring stick to justify why and how Floyd would dominate Margarito.
They simply forget the fact that Clottey is a very live Welter weight who will give any of the belt holders a full nights work, including Floyd Mayweather Jr.
So rather than to own up and give credit where its due, they use the clottey arguement by putting alot of spins on the "what if" Debate, example what if Clottey didnt hurt his hand?
Easily we could all use the what if arguement because its open ended that is an arguement that will never have logical conclusion because its just too vage.
Bottom line is Clottey did look good early and faded late, he admitted that his hand or finger was not broke after the fight, actually that was during a pre fight interview with Kayrn Bryant the night that Clottey fought the late Corrales.
Some how people just want to ignore that all togther and rather focus on what was said after the fight even though there is hard evidence (a confession) from Clottey that states he didnt break anything.
but like I said if they own up to that then what arguement do they have?

Anyone with high regard for Clottey must think the world of Carlos Baldomir. When Baldomir beat Clottey he had Clottey so frustrated he had to resort to cheating.

So if it makes people think the world of Baldimor what fans are likely to think so? Ummm Mayweather fans, Why didnt Floyd chose to fight Baldimor over Margarito? hmmm
