    [QUOTE=abadger;3501001]Technical skill,

Who landed the cleaner shots? Hopkins

Who landed the more effective shots? Hopkins

Who landed the Harder Shots? Hopkins

    Who knocked who down? Hopkins

Who had the better defence? Hopkins

Who landed more scoring shots? Calzaghe

Who was the more aggressive fighter? Calzaghe

    So....

Calzaghe won. This is insane. Hopkins doesn't get to win solely because his punching technique was better than Joe's. He didn't land enough of his beautiful punches to win the fight. He was outscored by the more aggressive fighter who landed more shots.

Why is this so hard for you guys to accept. I repeat, your argument is absurd.

    your argument is absurd

no Hopkins does'nt get a win because of better punching technique, but he does not get beat based on the fact his oponent hit fresh air all night & he was the one on the floor & took the cleaner harder shots throuhgout the bout

Man. This is worst debate I have ever been in on here. Your argument that Hopkins won is that, in all seriousness, Joe "hit fresh air all night"? Do you have any idea how silly that statement is? Can you imagine, say Manny Steward saying that on HBO? No, you can't, because its ridiculous. It's not an opinion about boxing or a piece of analysis, based on watching a fight, its just nonsense coming from the mouth of a fan trying to rewrite history.

i dont know how to score i dont think Hopkins won but also dont think Calzaghe won

yeah clearly u have a better grasp on reallity than i do ,Hopkins won 4 of the first 6 rounds & he scored a knockdown which by my estimation gives him 5 rounds in the bag going into the second half of the fight

i dont know how to score a fight, i aint the one saying Calzaghe won a clear decision when Hopkins landed the cleaner more effective punches & Calzaghe was swinging like a rusty gate

i have said over & over again to u specifically Hopkins did not win the fight but niether did Calzaghe

no its an observation that Joe was ineffective as the aggressor in that particular fight ,that is what im trying to illustrate anyway

Manny Steward would also never claim that Calzaghe would have beaten a prime Roy jones by Ko either ,and based on Calzaghe performance against a 43 year old Hopkins i dare say he would pick Joe to beat a prime Hopkins who could sustain his workrate

OK, I agree it wasn't Joe's best performance but for me he did win the fight clearly.

Point taken on Roy Jones though!

hey your are entitled to believe what ever u want but i cannot give Calzaghe the win because allthough he was busy he was waay to ineffective to have taken the unisputed 175lbs title off Hopkins

Hopkins early rounds won & cleaner punches & knockdown should have dispelled any fears that Calzaghe had done enough to rip the title away form him a draw i could have stood for

Quick Question, if you say the Hopkins landed the Cleaner, more Effective, Harder shots, and knocked calzaghe down, how on earth could calzaghe have won this fight clearly?

Dont post for a while, think about it.

No need, I already posted the answer to your question several times. It is:

Because Joe landed more scoring punches.

The punches that Hopkins landed might have been cleaner and more effective than Joe's but that does not mean that Joe's don't count. You don't discount everything one fighter does because his opponent has better technique! Joe threw and landed massively more punches than Hopkins did, and enough of them were effective enough to give him the fight. It really is very simple.
