I am a Calzaghe fan, yes, so if that makes me a NUTHUGGER then fine, I'll be one for you.
I'll tell you what I think though. I think this is whole NUTHUGGER concept is the single thing that undermines these boards. To me it is just a word trotted out by lazy posters in one of two scenarios 1) when their little stereotype of what is and isn't so in boxing is questioned and they lack the wit and insight to find a reply and 2) when they are jealous that a fighter they don't like is dominating his division and they feel the need to take it out a little bit on their fans.
Heres how I earned my NUTHUGGER stripes. First I stated that Calzaghe would beat Roy Jones. I'm sorry to break what appears to be a fundamental law of US boxing wisdom, but Jones was not unbeatable, and has got KTFO on several occasions. That same amazing athlete with the phenomenal speed has a WEAK ASS CHIN. Its just reality. Predicting that Calzaghe would have KO'd him is a perfectly valid opinion, since Calzaghe is probably the most talented SMW we've seen since Jones, and thus the most likely to be the one who could do it. It's not an absolute, as you suggest, but it is my reasoned opinion, but lo and behold, because I suggest a flaw in your boy: I'M A NUTHUGGER.
Think about it man, I'm saying that a fighter who has been KO'd by lesser fighters than Joe could get KO'd by Joe. Your saying that a fighter who has been KO'd couldn't get KO'd! It's just logic and it makes you the NUTHUGGER not me.
The second thing I did to earn my NUTHUGGER stripes was to make a thread saying that in a fight that Joe Calzaghe actually won, he actually won. In this instance it is not even an opinion, it is a fact, and once again, for this I am branded a NUTHUGGER. It is ludicrous. Now, I agree that there is room for debate about the manner and closeness of the fight, but that is exactly what the thread was, it was my response to the absolutely relentless Calzaghe is ****, B-Hop won posts you see on here, and where anyone who dares to state that this isn't so is a NUTHUGGER. How jealous actually are these posters? Is it really so hard for them to accept that Calzaghe won that they have to pretend he didn't and insult those that think he did?
As I said at the start, this whole NUTHUGGER thing is spoiling these boards. At the end of the issue of whether Joe Calzaghe beat Hopkins is really not that important. Boxing is a trivial thing really that I take an interest in for a hobby, it's supposed to be fun, and when I post on a message board I just find it disappointing when a chorus of NUTHUGGER is the response to any attempt to challenge the status quo of opinion here. It's lazy, it's tired, it's old and it sometimes makes posting here a chore rather than a pleasure. It's a boxing forum, not a playground.
So please, take it somewhere else.
