I'm sorry, but Calzaghe defeated Hopkins comfortably

And I will try back.
Anybody who says that Calzaghe would have ko'd Roy Jones better expect some criticism.
I don't care if Roy got knocked out by Tarver or Johnson. To me they look as if they hit harder then Joe and to me it also looked like Roy Jones was gunshy after the knockout loss he suffered in the Tarver rematch. That played a big role on why Glen Johson knocked him out and even won most of the rounds. He got scared and was very defensive in the third fight against Tarver even though he could have beaten him.
That tells us nothing about a prime Roy Jones who at 168 was not only at his fastest but had a real big KO punch. Nothing in Calzaghe's fights against Lacy, Kessler and now particulary Hopkins tells me that he can handle a Roy Jones - prime or even past prime version. That's just how great and talanted he was and still is although he has slowed down. And anybody who tries to pump up Joe's skill into something they're not because he happens to be 45-0 is gonna get it one way or the other.
That's as good of a post as you're gonna get from me. So go ahead and give me the "I'm sorry but......(insert here)" speech so I can tell you how i really feel...LOL. Or we could leave it alone, agree to disagre and wait until this fight happens. Or not.......I can handle the heat. A message board can sometime be a civil exchange of opinions or it can break out into insults if we can't resolve our disagreemtn. Whatever, whenever.....I'm ready.Last edited by Vladimir303; 05-18-2008, 08:06 PM.Comment

It is true that the terms nuthugger and hater spoil these boards sometimes. There are some who no matter what, always reduce people's good analysis and simplify it down to "you're just a hater" or "you're just a nuthuggeer".
Personally I don't use those words much. You the thread started wrote a whole chapter about Calzaghe and why he won "clearly and impressive". I and other responded back with Non-insulting posts on why we disagree. That's where it should have stayed but you couldn't leave it alone and had to rubb it it and have the last word as if you making the last statement over rides everything that has been said. I'M SORRY, but this how it really is what you're telling us. Well I'm telling you, I'm sorry but it aint.
You're trying to force your opinion upon others and the minute people see through your bull**** you play the victim's role. Just cut the **** out or deal with the consequences. Or if you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen my lil friend.
Don't act like you're above it.
But the dude called me 'Delusional", put words in my mouth, and tried to make himself as this holier then thou, poor me, you U.S. guys are a bunch of ******s for scoring the fight the way you did, type of *******. It goes beyond this particular thread between me, and this dude.
I'm going to leave it at that. I don't believe in red k, or ignore lists. That **** is for *******. But I'm done with this guy.Comment

Your post is good. There is a big difference between saying that Joe wouldn't beat Roy and saying that Joe is ****. We can agree to disagree on this for sure, but I guarantee that in the present day Joe will beat Roy. Its definitely much more debatable back in the day, but you know what I think about it!Comment

I believe there is a quote from Joe Calzaghe himself somewhere out here, where he himself says that Roy Jones is the one guy he is a lil scared of getting in the ring with because of how good he is. Even he knows what's up.
The atheticism/speed/power/skills disparity is so obvious when comparing Joe and Roy, to anybody. But some people because Joe happens to be 45-0 like to think otherwise. Those are the same people (although there is always an exception to the rule) who thought that Ricky Hatton was some future all-time great who was gonna beat Floyd and go on to other great things. They either didn't know or didn't wanna know the disaparity in Talent and ability until reality check came at round 11 in Las Vegas.
And the fact that Joe didn't get a crack at Roy while he was at the height of his career shouldn't be a suprise to you Joe fans. And you're only lieing to yourself if you try to spin it, as if it's Roy's fault it didn't happen. At least Hatton came here, won a few fights and got a shot at a prime P4p King in Floyd. It was his to be won but he came up short. Joe will fight a past his prime Roy now, so don't be suprise dpeople will not give him full credit if he pulls of a victory.
IMO, he should just go after Pavlik. It's an easier fight and Pavlike is undefeated and considered a prime fighter. He will get more credit for beating him then Jones. The mentality is (and rightfully so) that people refuse to believe that somebody with Joe's skills can really touch Roy even if Roy losses. It's like comparing Michael Jordan to Larry Byrd.......no contest. It a no win situation for Joe at this point.Last edited by Vladimir303; 05-18-2008, 08:31 PM.Comment

To me anybody who prides himself on being fair & balanced shouldn't even think twice about what would have happend back in the day. Just 5 years ago Roy takes it all day. It's more debatable now on what would happend between Roy vs Joe. Any Joe Calzaghe fan today could use Roy's age and wear and tear on his body as one of the reasons why Joe will beat him and make a credible argument in favor of their guy. Something they couldn't have used to explain a victory for Calzaghe if it were 6 years ago.

Basically I agree that Jones talent was amazing, but I think a lot of people don't realise how good Calzaghe actually is. He has talent genuinely from the top drawer and I don't think people realise it. I also think that this prime Roy is being inflated into something he wasn't, which was unbeatable, and I think his fans look past his very real losses way too easily.
One thing that Joe Calzaghe has always done is force the fight if he realises he has to, and I think that after falling behind on the cards he would realise that he HAD to knock Roy out and he would go out and do it. I know he would have to take a few right hands doing it, but Calzaghe's chin is truly incredible and I think he could. All of this is no easy task I know, and I would be a lunatic to describe it as certain or say that Roy also could not beat Joe, but since I am making a pick, that is it.Comment

Calzaghe late KO after being behind on the score cards. I'd agree with that actuallyComment
