Can't be bothered to keep defending him caus all the haters keep saying the same ****.

      - He nearly lost to a 43yr old Hopkins.
      - Roy Jones Jnr would KO him in his prime (caus Calzaghe gets hurt alot)
      - He just slaps (Yes, he does slap. Wins fights though)
      - Eubank was old when he fought him.
      - He got a gift to Robin Reid.
      - He hasn't fought many good fighters (Eubank, Lacy, Kessler and Hopkins are a few of the big names he has beaten).

      Find some new material ffs.
A few of the big names he's beaten???!!!

Why don't you try the ONLY big names he's beaten!

          Quote from me:

If you don't believe that Calzaghe is a great fighter, you must have some extremely strange criteria for greatness. The simple truth is that the man has never been beaten as a pro, dominated his chosen division for upwards of ten years, unified it, beating everyone who was supposed to have beaten him along the way, then moved up a division and in his very first fight at the new weight beaten the linear and consensus champion who alos happened to be a top 10 p4p fighter. If those achievements do not count as great in your book, then there must truly be few, if any boxers who are. What Calzaghe has done, is basically unparallelled in boxing history, and denying him respect for it is ludicrous, it smacks of having a negative animus towards a fighter who doesn't happen to be one of your favourites.

Your criticism of Calzaghe's 'non-existent' greatness centres around a facile and superficial dismissal of his opponents. It seems from where I am standing that the only fighters Calzaghe could have on his record that he could get credit for from fans like you are Jones, Toney, Hopkins, Wright, Tarver and Trinidad, or in other words a mixture of the absolutely top names on Hopkins and Jones resumes. This is so one sided it is untrue, you can't cherry pick the very best results from two fighters and then say another boxer, from another country has to have beaten them too. I can flip it around and say that Jones and Hopkins should have faced Calzaghe earlier to prove themselves, that Jones should have fought Eubank, Benn and Collins, that Hopkins should have fought Toney and vice versa. I haven't seen any of these supposed greats be too eager to fight the consensus best young lion around the division either, Kessler, except Calzaghe.

I think the simplest answer to your question is this: if Calzaghe is so weak and there are other greater fighters out there, how come none of them are the current Ring SMW and LHW champ? If Calzaghe can do it then a true great should have no problem, should he?
You said you wanted a civil debate, so debate.

Jones best wins: Hopkins, Toney, Ruiz
Hopkins best wins: Tarver, Trinidad, Winky
Calzaghe's best wins: Hopkins, Eubank, Kessler

Really the difference between these fighters is nowhere near it is made out to be. I await discussion of the McCallums, Griffins etc...

And you don't think thats great, 2 of them being Undefeated reigning world champions.

The guy has just stepped up a weight, to take on the number 1 in that division, not just a titleholder, in his own country.

Look at Pacquiao, he's stepping up to lightweight now, but whos he fighting David Diaz, just another Paper champ.

you can't really compare Joe's resume to Roy's cause Roy's better.

Plus Joe Calazghe is one of the most protected fighters out there, he has Frank Warren to thank for that.

The Manfredo fight was an absolute joke.

Joe should have jumped ship like Ricky and Naseem.

                That is all.

                  To what ship?

                  He would have been ****ed.

He was never as popular as either of those two.

His career would have turned out exactly the same at best.

Who the **** has Calzaghe beat worth mentioning?? An old Eubank, an overrated Jeff Lacy, Kessler, and a 43yr old over the hill Hopkins. You say a green Hopkins made Roy look ordinary. Are you forgetting that Roy won that fight 116-112 on all scorecards. which is the closest anybody came to beating him in his prime. Or are you forgetting how he completely outclassed James Toney who was rated VERY highly at the time until Roy embarrassed him!!

                    Yall must have forgot!
Your are on the wrong thread pal - and what your are saying is said 100 times before. I am a fan of Calzaghe - but he lost to BH. I think that it.s very importened who Calzaghe takes on next, - Pavlik or RJJ.
