is Pavlik a good Champion or was it just right place right time ? knowing what we know now about Jermain Taylor it makes his victory look less impressive ,Taylor got 2 debatable decisions against Hopkins & was a poor Champion IMO he had lackluster defences against the likes of Spinks,Ouma ,Winky he was ready to be taken as far as im concerned but blown up 154lbs /147lbs fighters were not the guys to do it

it seems we all love Pavlik for his style but when we match him up against other skilled MW /SMW we have him 2nd best everytime so my question is was he in the right place at the right time rather than being a top top fighter

Taylor was tailor made for him ,poor Stamina ,lack of focus, bad defence, questionable chin

    First:

-What other Middleweights do you have Pavlik playing second fiddle to?
-What makes you think Taylor had a questionable chin?

I don't think Pavlik was right place, right time (well I guess he was in some respects). The guy has beaten no fewer than three credible opponents into the ground now. He is who he is. That may not be enough to beat Hall of Fame caliber fighter like Calzaghe, or even someone with the skill set of Kessler, but he's still a damned good fighter.

Sometimes, a fighter can ve very good by doing ONE thing , as long as he does that one thing VERY well.

        That's Kel.

Taylor was rocked by Winky & Hopkins i dont consider either to be big punchers

what i mean by right place right time is the competition at that weight is poor IMO there are some talented MW coming up through the ranks though

Pavlik is in a similar position to the one that Cotto was in about a year ago. Lots of people think he's the best, he's gone some way to proving it, but the opposition he's faced so far have had plenty of questions against them themselves. The truth is that perhaps Miranda or Taylor might actually emerge the best at the end of the day, like people thought Paul Williams might.

The problem for Pavlik is that unlike WW, MW is not exactly stacked with fighters at a similar level for him to beat, and even more bereft of a 'legend' figure by beating whom he could prove himself. Who is going to be his Mosley? In order to prove himself, he will have to step up to SMW to face the likes of Kessler and maybe Calzaghe.

If he's a good but not great champ then he's in the right place at the right time, but if he really has got the goods then he's in the wrong place at the wrong time.

What he does next will show us which one he is.

He was certainly hurt by Hopkins, but Hopkins CAN punch. Especially when he turns on his punches (like that savage counter right he landed on Taylor in the 10th).

Taylor was never hurt against Wright, but I had him (JT) losing that fight.

Pavlik has beaten legitimate fighters at 160 and I don't believe that the recent bunch of fighters at MW were awful. Pavlik beat Zuniga, Taylor and Miranda...then you have Abraham, Sturm and Wright...not bad.

i aint saying Taylor is packing glass but his chin is less than stellar IMO ,Hopkins & Winky are not big punchers but they both hurt him and TBH i dont think Pavlik is a huge puncher either he is big puncher but nothing out of the ordinary he mainly wears people down

i dont think Taylor has a glass jaw but he has been hurt in all of these fights ,gassed or not he has been hurt

I think that he is a good champion and more of being the "right punches at the right time."
