Help from the ref?
This is the most contradictory thing that some folks say about the fight. First they say that Floyd was roughing Ricky up inside and using his elbows. In the next breath, they say that the ref helped Floyd because he would immediately break them up. Huh?
The reality is that Floyd was beating Ricky up inside. Floyd was beating Ricky outside. Floyd is just a better fighter. Ricky is a good kid. He is not in Mayweather's class. Simple as that.
Floyd would beat Ricky with ANY ref. Floyd would beat Ricky with NO ref.Comment

No, Floyd was throwing one punch and holding, the action was immediately stopped and Ricky was warned. Then Floyd would grab Ricky's arm with one hand and shove his other elbow in Ricky's face and then the referee would stop the action and warn Ricky for holding. Then Floyd would duck way below the waist and grab Ricky around the hips and the action would immediately be stopped and Ricky would be warned.
Regardless of who would win with fair refereeing Joe Cortez was an absolute disgrace that night. Did Floyd need his help? Probably not. But it would have been nice to see what would have happened if the fight could have flowed.
Floyd's gameplan early was to potshot as Ricky came in and hold then look to the ref for help, and it paid off until Hatton started making mistakes, which coincidentally happened after he was deducted a point for a foul that was identical to one Floyd had committed earlier.Comment

I watch the decisive rounds, and I see zero interaction from the ref. But I understand that Hatton has a loyal and passionate contingent of fans. And they have elected to scapegoat the ref. I'm cool with it.
BTW, Hatton said he was "delighted" with the ref choice when the judges and ref were announced.Comment

The "decisive" round was the sixth, in which the ref played the major part. That was the turning point from competitive to one-sided. Unless you're suggesting that the tenth was "decisive", but the tenth followed three straight rounds of brutality as Hatton forgot entirely how to defend himself and just blundered into punches. Would Hatton have been stopped like that if he got caught by that punch after three competitive or even rounds? I doubt it. If he were likely to be stopped from that punch without a three round beating immediately preceeding it then he would have been stopped in the seventh.I watch the decisive rounds, and I see zero interaction from the ref. ****** argument , Floyd takes rounds to stop an opponent thats what he does its the way he always works , and your dumb ass argument says if he didnt work on Hatton for some rounds which started in the 4th he wouldnt have connected the final blows that knocked him out , your reaching big time !The "decisive" round was the sixth, in which the ref played the major part.
