People were underrating him before the Cintron fight, and now some people are overrating him based on the performance.

People went from saying he ****** to jumping on the bandwagon after that fight. I dont understand. He did the same thing the first time.

It seems the only thing he isn't is accurately graded.

      Some people overrate him.
      Some people underrate him.

But no one seems to have a middle-of-the-road view of him, except for Scott... who still hasn't said something incorrect the whole time that he has been on this forum.

I think Margarito is under rated by most casual fans who really don't understand what this man brings to the table as a fighter... You guys are **** on in the sense that Antonio is a pressure fighter. He throws a lot of punches in bunches and mixes in a lot of bombs. But when you see a guy counter a two punch combo by moving forward like there's no resistance what so ever, launching four punches of his own while appearing to be as indestructible as freakin' Ironman (considering he does get hit, but he never really shows it), you definitely better not underestimate the power or the will of that kinda opponent. Especially in the later rounds... He digs to the body with real power and technically is actually a very sound boxer for the style he's created. His punches can come from all kinds of angles and though I like Cotto to win this fight, this is by far the best test for my man Miguel to date... I'm not betting on this fight as Margarito freaks me out that much, and I really want to see him do well, but this time against Cotto I won't be behind my carnale Tony Margarito 100% as I usually am. I'm just gonna sit back and enjoy this show... This one has fight of the year potential written all over it...

I would say underrated. He is a very tall order to beat though for the shorter Welterweights. Stylistic Nightmare he is. The short guys are always going to have trouble with him as they will always be in his punching range and he is very good at swarming them.

Cotto can beat him if he fights at his absolute best. Cotto is good at messing up faces and Margarito is a bleeder. Both guys are going to pay a heavy price in this fight. Both of them can win. It is going to be a brutal fight.

Better? I don't think it's that people underrate him as much as they overlook him. Margarito is an underappreciated fighter, but the outcome of the Cotto fight will tell what direction his career goes in. He is what he is, a tough guy who comes to fight. Nothing fancy about him, just goes in there and gives an honest day's work.

I think he's considerably less formidable than his groupies think, however.

Argh Addison I hate to say it but I think your prediction is spot on. This fight IMO has Hearns-Duran written all over it. Just the absolute scissors to Cotto's paper. I hope he wins but **** don't think he will...

This sucks and taking this point of view into account it's no surprise Cotto still hasn't signed the contract. I hope he wins but **** don't think he will...
Just for fun, WSLPR, is there a scenario where you envision a potential Cotto victory? He's surprised us all before.. Who knows, you know?

Cotto has the biggest X factor in the sport. If you compare him last fight and 5 fights ago you would think it's a different guy.

My wet dream scenario is Joshua Clottey for a full 12. This is how I thought the fight would play out at first blush when it was first announced. Honestly I can't make up my mind. He has a better jab, better handspeed, better boxer but he's a midget compared to Marg and Margs style exacerbates the problem. I just can't make a pick. My head hurts... All I know is if Cotto wins and wins big then he's the real deal most definitely and should be labeled as Champ at 147 by Ring Magazine. His P4P also goes up a couple of ranks between 2 and 4.
