The ONLY reason OSCARS JAB worked against FLOYD is because...

This is why people say cotto can beat him because cotto has a powerful jab and the key to beating floyd is the jab then keep on getting through with shots.
Cotto is technical holds his hands high so he isnt easy to hit but he has shown chin problems but i dont think floyd hits hard enough to bother cotto.
Oscar gd jab but hes to past it now retire oscar dont fight floyd.Comment

Winky Wright?Wrong, wrong, wrong.
Oscars jab worked against Floyd because Oscar has the best jab in the business. There is nothing you can do to prepare for Oscars jab. You will not find a sparing partner with a jab like his, you will not find a drill for dealing with a jab like his.
Couple that with the fact that Floyds weakest defense is against the jab, and you have a formula for a jab oriented fight.
.
Also I think Floyd could adapt to Oscar's jab now that he has seen it more. If Floyd had a bigger ring to work with also, it probably wouldn't have been as effective. That's no excuse though. Floyd I think can adapt to it though. He adapted to Castillo by the end of the first fight a bit and even better in the second fight.Comment

Winky's jab is not as good as Oscar's.Winky Wright?

Let me put it to you simply. There is no adapting to Oscars jab. That is like saying you can adapt to getting hit by a freight train. You can't.Winky Wright?

His jab is too strong, too quick, and too educated to adapt too. People forget that even though Oscar has a great left hook, He has always won fights with his jab.
It it obvious that you have no in ring experience. A jab is a dangerous weapon. It hurts a lot more than it looks, and a good jab is very very hard to deal with.Comment

floyd cant parry oscars jab...when oscar threw the piston jab, his hands were quicker than mayweather's defensive maneuvers...He doesn't have to throw the right right over the jab. He can effectively negate the jab by turning into it or even parrying it if it come to the middle or ****.......some head movement if it comes up top. If he slips it he can counter with a right and he can do the same if he parry's it. Floyd would much rather slip it though, he can catch Oscar in bad positions while he punches, his counter right hands on the ropes are excellent proof of that.
also the thing floyd lacks when fighting on the backfoot is head movement...his head is a sitting target for oscars jab...floyd can gtet away with countering over the top of lesser jabs or lazy jabs...but this is the best jab in the last 10 years we're talking about...Last edited by -Hyperion-; 05-04-2008, 08:23 PM.Comment

Well actually I have been in the ring before and have sparred (my nose is actually ****** up from a good jab...), but I'm just learning.Let me put it to you simply. There is no adapting to Oscars jab. That is like saying you can adapt to getting hit by a freight train. You can't.

However you make it seem like Oscar's jab is unbeatable. Oscar is 35 and his jab isn't as fast as it used to be. Floyd is also a very good adjuster to people's gameplans. It'll be a tough job, but it's not out of the question.
Off topic kinda: Why doesn't Oscar switch to southpaw anymore to throw the jab sometimes? I think that could be somewhat useful against Floyd, but it is a bit risky seeing as how he could get caught like in the Whitaker fight.Comment
