I'll admit that I pretty much only root for Welsh fighters.

Anybody who roots only for their own race is not a racist. I noticed at the fights I've been to, that black people almost always root for black fighters - but that doesn't make them racist. There are at least 20 members here who always root for the black guy, but I don't consider them racist for that.
Racism to me is hatred of people because of their race. The people who hate and constantly attack boxers because of their race, are clearly racist. Some people here show a jealousy of successful white fighters. There are some here who frequently ridicule Wlad and Calzaghe and others because they are white - the more successful a white fighter is, the more ridicule he receives! This is because they deeply believe white boxers are inferior, and when a white guy wins, it shakes that belief.
Strangely, there are also some self-hating white people who love black fighters and hate white boxers.
I can name names, but we all know who the racists are..
I root for fighters of all nationalities and races. The ones I don't like are loud-mouthed braggarts and poor sports, and those of weak character. I detest runners, and although I appreciate a good defensive fighter, I prefer a courageous come-forward fighter like Calzaghe.
I like fighters with courage and heart in the ring, who walk down their opponents. Although I'm not Mexican, all the Mexican fighters I've seen have those qualities, so I tend to almost always root for them.Last edited by The Hammer; 05-02-2008, 09:46 AM.

Is it not ironic you used racism against white fighters like there is NONE against African Americans?

All bull **** aside, I think boxing, being such a global sport, it's more of a NATIONAL thing, then a racial thing these days.

Honestly, how I read your post is that your aware of that racism traditionally flows from white down and your simply trying to level things by convincing people that blacks can be racist too. You have to take into consideration the past and present history of racism to realize that we don't currently live an equal society.Last edited by βetamax; 05-02-2008, 08:33 AM.

If you don't have basic faith in people that's fine. That's your right.
They are th eonly athletes outside of the olympics that consistantly bring in their nations flags into the ring. Not to mention the COUNTLESS times I have heard a fighter insult anothers nationallity or race......get real.
