There majority of Caucasians don't root for a fighter because of race and many will favor a non-white to win beat a white because of a guilt complex they suffer from.

The majority of non-white boxing fans will almost always root for the person of color even when that person has a different nationality.

I don't know even 1 black or latino person who will root for a white fighter exclusively the way allot of whites do for mostly blacks. I don't even think I've seen a poster (here and other message boards) who claims to be of color root for the white fighter to win.

I've noticed allot of hate towards white Americans and Europeans because of their race and it's just shrugged off. From Hopkins "white boy" comment to labeling every white fighter coming up a "white hope" or the only reason that Europeans are having such success boxing since the fall of the iron curtain is because the best American boxers are playing "football and basketball."

Addison you threw gasoline on the fire with this thread

You have guys here getting all emotional over rhetoric. Race plays a role in damn near everything and you are foolhardy if you think otherwise...Welcome to America > the melting pot of immigrants, and blatant racism.

Look, whites are the power wielding group in the US, can we agree on that?
This is no longer the case. You have a black presidential nominee all but locked in, you have a black secretary of state, you have a black Supreme Court Justice, the most powerful woman in the media is black, the richest sportsman is black. The simple fact is that doors that were closed to people of colour are now open.

I'm not trying to suggest that racism in America has disappeared, far from it. I just don't think that it is necessarily true that whites have all the power.

This thread is rated G. Actually read it. There's informed discussion solely.

You must have missed my post. I wanted Hatton to defeat Mayweather and he was doing a great job till he got ko'd. And the bar i went to see the fight there were 98 percent Mexicans rooting for Hatton to win, and there were some blacks and funny enough they rooted for Hatton to win. My friend that was there rooted for Mayweather. Whites i seen a few rooted for Hatton.

It all comes down to how you fight. At least thats how i pick who to root if the fighter isn't of Mexican heritage. I useally side with my Mexicans and Chicano boxers. But when not i see what style is more intersting to watch and thats how i start to root for them.

Jeff Lacy was a baddass and i used to like watchign him fight. Still root for him but it was difficult seeing him aginst Manfredo.

Clearance "Bones" Adams was an under dog fighter that i followed when i could see him fight on tv. I was glad he won a title. His fight with Paulie Ayala is a great fight that im sure few today, either remeber or havn't seen but its a must watch fight. There second was great too, but the first one was insane.

Butterbean, lol, how can't you not root for this guy?

Johnny Tapia, my dumb as used to think he was the baddest white boy i've every seen throw on a pair of gloves then i found out he was Chicano, lol.

Bronko McCart used to be a favourite of mine. Rooted for him when he fought Winky Wright the first time(espn). Followed many of his fightts. Just never seen the last two Winky v. Cart fights. He just didn't show up against Winky in that first fight.

Peter McNeally, i won a bet that he'd last more then one round with Tyson. He had the attitude of a fighter but not the punch.

                    Does Tszyu count as white?

Calzaghe i learned to respect him as he was regularly on Showtime, which many probably don't know. Not sure i rooted for him since most times i didn't know who his opponet were, most were European fighters.

I can't think of other white fighters, oh, yeah, i root for Wlad when he fights guy can be exciting to watch with his power and shaky chin.

Again i just think it comes down to fight 1. the fighter is succesfull, 2. do you like the way he fights, 3. how he conducts himself.
