I take margarito serious.

I think anytime you have a fighter (in ANY weight class) that uses 1200+ punches a fight you HAVE to take him seriously (especially when there is power in EVERY one of those punches).

You can't afford not to.

Miguel Cotto HAS TO (and i believe will) take margarito seriously; a LOT more seriously than he took gomez in their fight...it was a tune-up fight and cotto sure acted like it in the ring but this is NOT a tune-up fight and he wont take it as one...if he did im sure he'd get beat.

I think the reason margarito wont become (at least at this point) THEE top welterweight is because of his technique and boxing ability. it has to be further developed if he wants to rise above cotto and eventually go on to beat someone like floyd mayweather.

this kind of pressure against floyd mayweather wont be effective unless margarito develops some actual boxing technique to go with it.

you cant beat a guy like mayweather on pressure alone; you have to have technique; utilize your jab; counterpunch; use good defense; etc.

you cant just bully your way through a fight (note: see mayweather v. hatton for reference).

but margarito can become 3rd best welterweight (probably at best unless he develops more skill).

thats the difference between he and cotto...cotto and margarito are virtually the same with the exception margarito is busier and cotto has the ability to box...thats what margarito needs...he needs to be able to stick and move; counter; etc.

not JUST use 1200+ punches a fight...

You didn't follow boxing at the time, then. It's all anyone talked about for a full year. Little Greg Leon covered it to death with Arum on a weekly basis, so there should be tons of interviews over at b-talk if you want to go look them up. The 8 mill was guaranteed. And it was made before the Judah fight. At the time it was made, Mayweather and Margarito had each headlined exactly ONE pay-per-view and each had exactly one title. It was an incredible offer at the time. Floyd wanted nothing to do with it. There was a video of Margarito coming up to Floyd at some presser by himself, and Floyd looked very uncomfortable, saying "Let's just let it get a little bigger..." something to that effect.

Floyd wanted nothing to do with Margarito. Anyone who followed that story knows that. C'mon, man. Floyd chose to fight Judah coming off of a loss for less money than he was offered to fight Margarito for a WW title. LOL Margarito was considered the most dangerous and most respected titlist at WW at the time, since Judah had lost to Baldomir and neither had really looked great in the fight. I mean, seriously... good game. The end.

It's really common knowledge that Floyd ducked Margarito. You can argue who would've won, was it a smart move to avoid him, etc etc. But you can't argue that he wasn't avoided by Floyd. Sorry.
