    Denis Boytsov steps up today

In Germany today, Denis Boytsov will face his biggest challenge to date, tough American fringe contender/journeyman Robert Hawkins.

Hawkins (ranked by boxrec #43 heavyweight) defeated Dominic Guinn in his last fight. He has only been stopped once in the past eight years, and has gone the distance with big punchers such as David Tua and Sam Peter.

If Boytsov defeats him by decision, it won't tell us too much, just that Denis is a decent fighter. But if Boytsov can KO an opponent who couldn't be stopped by Peter and Tua, that will be impressive!

I don't know. Hawkins is getting up there in age and hasn't really been winning much. He seems to be a trial horse now.

Virchis and Maskaev ( a long time ago) both knocked him out.

I wouldn't go by his box rec ranking.

Beating an umotivated Guinn is Hawkins claim to fame (not a very good one) to say the least.

Hawkins has lost to just about anyone else good he has faced.

Boytsov might not get the KO but that isn't the point. He needs the rounds and the practice against an experienced guy. He is very cautious behind his high-guard approach. He has a huge punch but he might not let his hands go enough to KO Hawkins

He also beat Terry Smith last fall. And he's gone the distance with Tua and Peter...

I think the boxrec ranking is fair at #43. Hawkins has been competitive in fights with top heavyweights, and defeated all the mediocre ones he's faced. I saw the Guinn vs. Hawkins fight, and it was more a situation of Guinn not fighting smart enough to get past Hawkins defense than lack of motivation.

He's lost to so many guys though. Johnson, Peter, Tua, Maskaev, Bergeron, Virchis, those are off the top of my head. and Terry Smith is hardly a world beater.

I remember seeing him on FoxSports net against Wiggins I think it was.
I was just never impressed with him.

It's good that Boystov is fighting someone with a pulse now, albeit a somewhat weak pulse.

It will be shown on that sopcast stream in the other thread, but not live.

The German TV network will show it on delayed broadcast, after the live broadcast of the Erdei-Abron fight.

                    Now be fair, jreckoning!

When you consider older heavyweight "prospects" like Faruq Salem age 34, Albert Sosnowski age 29, Malik Scott age 27, and Donnell Holmes age 35 have been fighting poorer opponents, Hawkins is a very good test for the 22 year old Denis Boytsov!
