Cotto vs Gomez brings LOWEST HBO WCB ratings ever

Cotto, despite being one of the game’s best boxers, has not thrived in terms of pay-per-view numbers. His outings against Paulie Malignaggi, Zab Judah and Shane Mosley, while critical successes that did well at the box-office, performed just lukewarm on pay-per-view while situated in New York. His last outing against Alfonso Gomez in Atlantic City did one of the lowest ratings ever (2.1) for an HBO World Championship Boxing telecast. Perhaps Arum believes it's time for Cotto to expand his horizons (and his fanbase), and that fighting on the west coast will attract more Mexican-American fans, while increasing the pressure on one Floyd Mayweather to face Cotto, should be beat
'The Tijuana Tornado' in his adopted hometown.

    I guess Mayweather was right..

And it took Floyd 9 yrs for a PPv, while Cotto did it in 6.

Did it do worse than Hopkins/Calzaghe or Calzaghe/Kessler?? Wow, that's surprising.

And yeah, 340,000 buys for a PPV is not lukewarm, unless your ODH/Mayweather.

I guarantee though if you put Cotto and Mayweather in the ring together, it will sell GREAT.

I think that it should be mentioned that Tarver v. Woods, Dawson v. Johnson appeared on the same damn night and that could have been a reason for stealing Cotto's thunder. Hell I was at the Tarver fight in Tampa but if it wasn't for that I would have watched the Cotto fight. I hate when Showtime and HBO go head to head because it just makes everything look worse than what it is. I think MMA had something going on as well.
