I wish you had made this a multiple choice. I'd pick Whitaker at lightweight, but Mayweather at welterweight.

**** it would make that fight look like fight of the decade.

Whitaker was not nearly as defensive minded and a "runner" as people claim.

If you clowns would actually take the time to watch more of his fights, you'd see this.

When he was up against elite fighters who could punch he was very defensive, but very effective. Lightweight floyd mayweather was definitely elite and definitely a good puncher, just because we think a fight with two guys who love to counter punch and have difficult styles to figure out are going to make for a slow fight doesn't mean we haven't watched sweat P.

It's really amazing to see, but that's the type of thing we anticipate, and these guys werent pbf at 135.

Whitaker was not defensive against McGirt. He spent a lot of time trading at mid-range with Buddy, especially in the rematch. McGirt hit harder than Mayweather. Roger Mayweather had a monster right hand and a young green Whitaker spent a lot of time trading with him, even getting dropped and hurt in the process. Mayweather wasn't a very good puncher at LW. After his 2 fights with Castillo and the Sosa fight, people were talking about how he left his power at jr. lightweight. After people watched Mayweather stop Ndou and continuously hurt Corley at 140, and then stop the other matched Bruseles, people talked about a resurgence of his power.

But Mayweather was pretty much always a decent puncher in terms of power.

i think its his speed and accuracy that create his knockouts, not so much the force

Mcgirt and Roger were good, but no Floyd Mayweather. Looking back at Mayweather's stay at 135 it's fair to say that knocking out JLC who has only been of his feet once in about 60 fights was nearly impossible, so to say he was not carrying his power is to discredit Castillos durability (and mayweather's gameplan in those fights). There were certain fighters Pernell engaged but for the most part they weren't elite fighters with pop or stylistically as hard to hit as floyd, that wasn't his game anyway. That's why I think it's a dry fight. But one i would have LOVED to see.
