Are you literally saying that Hopkins faked the pain from the low blow to get a break from Calzaghe's relentless high-powered attack? You actually are advocating that feather-fist Calzaghe (at a higher weight than he had ever fought before, and he wasn't even powerful at 168 at the end!) was going to stop the iron-chinned Hopkins, who has a ridiculously good defense that generally fully blocks most shots, and partially blocks the rest of the shots? Also, keep in mind that Hopkins really is one of the toughest MFs in the sport. Down in one fight in his career, against a South American fighter. When is the last time you saw a South American fighter who didn't have ridiculous amounts of power?

First of all he had every right within the rules to take 5 minutes

      Bernard is smart.

Its no different than an NBA team calling a time out when the other team is on a run, to stop their momentum.

At 43, its exactly.. what he should of done.

The way he was punching, and considering he was considered a light puncher at 168, I don't find it a stretch to call him that at 175, based on his one performance of punching power against Hopkins at that weight.

After seeing the fight twice now, I firmly believe that without the 3-4 min. rest Hopkins wouldnt have won round 10. Because after the low blow he came back with more energy and threw more combinations that lead him to winning the round.

Without that round there is no controversy since I havent seen a card yet that had Hopkins winning by anything more than a point.

I mean watch round 12. Hopkins was done. All he did was clinch, and you can easily see him clutch Calzaghe's arm at times more than he was before.

I don't know if Joe could've taken advantage, but Hop was very tired and Joe was forcing the pace. After his breather Hop had a good two minutes then stopped fighting again for the following two rounds

thats another thing with Cortez on the low blow

most referees usually say u got 5 minutes & then proceed to pester the fighter to continue saying things like are ready yet ,take as much time as u need when in reallity thier basically saying HURRY THE **** UP AND LETS CONTINUE

i cant remember Cortez once getting on Hopkins case about continuing

This is a ridiculous myth that people are propagating. Calzaghe landed clean punches all night
