Back in the day Roy would beat Joe no doubt but now i am not sure if Roy still has it. Its true that Roy never dealt with pressure that well but his reactions were so great for his size few could effectively pressure him, Johnson was able to effectively pressure Roy but Johnson is a bit stronger than Joe and has a very strong chin. I think now its a 50/50 fight but if i had to bet on it i would go for Calzaghe.

this is more less what i was trying to say.

I have little (if any) doubt that a prime roy jones beats a prime calzaghe.

but at this point in each other's career i think calzaghe gets the nod.

          I'd love this fight.

It would be great, I'm a big Joe fan but Jones can still beat him. It would be brilliant to watch.

I'm not sure who would win, but at least there's no excuse about Roy's age.

The winner of this fight is the best pound for pound of his generation

To me it was always extremely clear that Roy was mentally traumatized by his knockout losses to Tarver and Johnson. Not so much to the masses.. There was some confusion over whether or not Jones had suffered pyschological damage, his reflexes diminished, or steriods had affected his powers.. He was a shell of himself in his third fight with Tarver - and his self doubt has extended itself into every fight he has had since.

He was a little shaky with Trinidad, still, most recently.. This guy has not fully found himself again, although he took another big step by beating Tito.

The question is; can Roy Jones stand up to the challenge of facing the mentally strongest man in Boxing, Joe Calzaghe??

              That's a fricking ? bigtime.

I agree Addy but I give him the benefit of the doubt that he could have gotten over that by now

He did warm up at the end of that fight with Felix.. And Roy probably thinks he's physically superior to Calzaghe, but he really can't afford any lapses.

I'm watching the Trinidad fight again. Definately. That's all that can be done.

If the fight is made, then i can only hope that RJJ comes to the ring with more than B Hop did. It could be a real tear up, could be a great fight. Im a bit concerned about our Joe taking on Jones because he has the ability to pull something out of the bag (unlike Hopkins, Roy is the real thing).
That said, if Roy comes with more heart and desire than B Hop, Joe will get to fight his natural fight and maybe just maybe the Americans will acknowledge him at last.
As for fighting Pavlik, forget it! Calzaghe would win a unanimous 12 rounder no problem at all. The Pavliks of this world are tailor made for Calzaghes style. As a Welshman id prefer to see him fight Pavlik, but then America would say he ducked RJJ. If he beats RJJ America will say he ducked Pavlik - do you see the trend here!

I hope this fight is at 168, Calzaghe didn't look as good at 175 although I believe that's mostly down to Hopkins.
