As I said to Kayjay; I might have undestimated his argument. Jones has allowed himself to be bulled to the ropes alot in recent history and Calzaghe could give him alot of trouble there, but after last night what objective mind couldn't see the steadily improving, more defensive minded, cobra counterpunching, more active, Roy Jones possibly even stopping Calzaghe?

Today's Jones wouldn't be able to toy with Calzaghe.

            I agree with the OP

Joe will not lunge in against Roy and get away with it. He would lunge in and get knocked on his ass.

Roy is older, but if you think he will be a pushover for anyone, think again. He has adjusted his style, and although not nearly the same he used to be, is still a force. For all his loss of speed and reflexes, they are still better than almost any fighter. He got cold ****ed a couple times, but Joe does not have the power to do it.

yeah i would agee with that... i think the "roy is a shell" theory, really is delusional... hes not prime anymore, no argument there... but if you think hes a pushover... your going to be disappointed.

Jones couldn't stop a welterweight trying to be a light heavyweight in Trinidad, so... the chances of him stopping the Zig Zag are pretty close to nothing.

Jones doesn't even try to get a stoppage win anymore. I just can't imagine how he stops a fighter as good as Calzaghe when it isn't even his mindset anymore.

care to put 10K on it.

Dont get me wrong; Roy Jones Jr. is the best of his era and a hall of famer no doubt but a CURRENT roy jones (i dont think) can beat a joe calzaghe.

roy is past his prime (while calzaghe is too) but i think roy's inactivity (besides fighting tito) is going to play a role in this.

and joe has much more puch output that tito did in that fight and joe is much faster than tito was in that fight so if you're comparing how jones did against trinidad in the last fight as to how he'll be much better than calzaghe then you're wrong.

Joe is not anthony hanshaw or felix trinidad, put jones in with a half decent fighter and maybe i'll believe that he still has something left.

Couldn't or didn't? There's a big difference. He held him up.

I can imagine many reasons he might feel more danger, pressure, and outright basic need to hurt Calzaghe with everything that he threw. But we would just be speculating. It's physically possible, and that's what he's going to need; stopping power, to have any sort of chance.
